nanogenesis Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Okay this is an attempt to change the hair of NPCs. Before I encountered a mod which used ApachiSky Hair to change each hair on the NPC but caused mismatching color of faces to the point that it was annoying. Â So what I did was, I extracted the meshes.bsa, and saw the directory structure for hair. I tried renaming all the files the same way it was in the .bsa, but the characters still have their default hair. I'm guessing that deleting those hairs present in the meshes folder and replacing them, packing them back into bsa would do the trick. Â So I haven't come across a bsa packer, so if anyone can direct me to one it would be good, and of course if anyone has a better solution than this please enlighten me. Â Thank you.
Allyster Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I use "Skyrim NPC Editor" to change some features from like clothing, hair, face shape, colours... and it works from me with Apachi's hair. Â It generates an .esp and .bsa for each NPC you modify or create, so you can only change the features from 1 npc each time. Â I unpak the .bsa to put glow to the head mesh and then I install like a normal mod: (meshes, textures into data folder with npc's .esp without pack again to .bsa.) Â PD: If you have the same meshes in .bsa and then in meshes folder the mesh is load 2 times making the face darker. Â Skyrim NPC Editor: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4554 Â BSAopt (I use this BSA unpaker (can compress too) and works great) http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/247
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 You can change NPC's hair in the CK. Â By the sound of it, you're wanting to use Apachii hair on NPC's, yeh? Here's how: Â - Download "Apachii Sky Hair" using your Nexus Mod manager. Be sure to activate the mod, and to tick/check its entry in the "Plugins" list in NMM. Â - Open up your CK Â - Click on "File", select "Data", then double-click "Skyrim .esm" and "ApachiiHair.esm", and hit "OK". Â - Select the name of the NPC you wish to change the hair on from the "Actors" list in the "Object Window", and double-click on it to bring up their Actor window. Â - Go to the "Character Gen Parts" tab (use the little arrows near the top right of the Actor window if you can't see the tab at first). Â - Look down the right hand side at the "Base Head Parts" pane. You'll see entries for Brows, Hair, Facial Hair, etc. Click on "Hair". Â - From the drop-down menu below the "Base head parts" pane, scroll through the hair options using the arrow keys or mousewheel. Apachii hair types should appear in the list (if they do not - make sure you actually did double-click the ApachiiHair.esm option in the "Data" panel). Â - Select your choice from the list, and tick/check the box at the bottom-centre of the Actor window labelled "Preview Full". Apachii hairs will NOT display properly in the CK render window when selecting the "Head" preview option - it's easier to select "Full" preview to see how the hair looks on a character. Â - Repeat until you've got the hair you want. Then, hit "OK". Â - Go back to the "Object Window". Select your NPC's name from the "Actors" list again. Click it ONCE to highlight it. Hit CTRL+F4 to export the NPC's "face gen". You will be prompted to continue, and be informed when it is done. This takes a moment. You WILL need to REPEAT this step each time you tinker with an NPC, otherwise the NPC's head will appear as a dirty grey colour in-game. Â - Hit "Save". Choose a name for the new .esp which will be generated (**if you're wanting to apply this process to a number of NPC's, it's a good idea to pick a general name rather than a single NPC's name for the new mod you've made). Close the CK. Open NMM, and make sure the new .esp is ticked/checked in the Plugins list. Â - Open up Skyrim & go take a look! Â Â Have a play around with this. Bear in mind that if you just want to change from one "Vanilla" hair to another, then you only need to load the "Skyrim.esm" file in the "Data" panel. Â You can use this same process for the Oblivion & Fallout hair packs which are also available - if you wish to do this, make sure you install the .esm versions.
