[Help] Second Life

Hello ladies and gents,

I would like to start with SL but I kinda can't find a guide how to do things or what to do. I have done the tutorial and tried to watch videos, but I just found one guy that tired to explain me some things.

I am into building, since you cant snap to other objects just like that I am not sure how to build proper.

Appearance is also important to me, I do understand meshes but not really how to get a proper unique look without L$

I am also not sure how to acquire Lindens without paying.

If you have a advice, guide or video I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

First of all install all the required mods in the download page of SexLab
afther this install a mod that causes sex scenes trigger
Like SexLab defeat
and install the required mods for defeat gets working
or you are saying to start creating mods for Sexlab?

Second Life, not Sexlab. :)

For close placement of objects while building, you need to use the Object tab in the build menu-- and math.  To start with, keep things in whole-meter sizes and positions.  So if something rezzes at X = 132.69743, change it to 133 to make it easier to work with.  (Careful with typos: if you change it to 1333 or something, it can be hard to find!)

If you have a 1-meter cube at X = 132, you can put another one right next to it by setting X = 133.  (It gets a little more complicated with other sizes...)

Build in modules.  E.g. if you have a wall + wall aligned just so, link the pieces (ctrl-L) and duplicate it (shift while moving item)  to make the other two walls.

If you want to make meshes, the easiest way is in Blender, which is free.  But ten times harder than SL's build menu, sorry. :P

For clothing etc., start with the free stuff in your inventory.  There are free items available in various stores, or on the Marketplace.

(Or just put $5 or so into the game.  That's about a thousand lindens; you can get nice stuff for that if you look around.)

Don't count on any source of free lindens.

You probably misunderstood the whole context but thanks anyways

I have been working with this method already but I can't imagine to make something really detailed, also how do I make doors? I have tried to get into the scripting language but it seems too much for now.

There are different clients for SL, which one do you use or recommend?

Posted

I use Firestorm, which has some nice features the Linden Labs client doesn't.

As for doors, here's a page with a nice rotating door script.  (It rotates the prim from the center... there is a way to fix this but I would have to reconstruct it...)

Or, here is a stupid little script that works by making the prim invisible for a few seconds.  Cheap but it works.

default
{

    touch_start(integer total_number)
    {
        // Touch the door to open it
           llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES);
           llSetPrimitiveParams([ PRIM_PHANTOM, TRUE ]);

           // After 4 seconds, close it
           llSetTimerEvent(4.0);
    }

    timer()
    {
        // Close the door
        llSetAlpha(1.0, ALL_SIDES);
        llSetPrimitiveParams([ PRIM_PHANTOM, FALSE ]);

        // Toss the timer
        llSetTimerEvent(0);
    }
}

Went back to reconstruct how to use that script.  (The one linked, not the one I included.)

Make a cube and go to the Object tab.

Set the Rotation to Z = 90.

Set the Size to something like X = .25, Y = 1.5, Z = 3.

Set the Path Cut to B = .375, E = .875.

Paste the script from the page into a new Script (do this in your inventory Scripts folder), then drag it to the Content tab.

Close the edit window and click on the door to open / close.

Id recommend firestorm. its what I use, and you really cant build except in sandbox sims or land you own. you really cant get any good stuff without lindens, best way to get without paying is stripping for tips, and then escorting

try adult hub, trust me, it took me a year to get where i am now, but the admins will happily help and teach you, you can get a nude skin and lots of things there, as well as stripping in nebula club for tips on the free to use poles, theyre friendly enough that someone will usually tip at least 100 just for being up there. its how i got my start, the key is persistence, being friendly and chatting with people in public chat. make friends there and youll go places.

Im about 10 Years in SL now.

I can tell if your into building - build it outside of SL (mesh) and Convert it to the format needed for an Upload.

Also-i hope no one takes offense-i advise you not to rotate around poles-unless you like that.

SL is mostly a social platform and if your working in such manner, you will confronted as such, no matter what gender you have in RL or SL.

Tough if you do not mind that at all, create a good female Account and whore yourself out-i do not mean this badly, its honest.

Cause thats probably the easiest way to earn money without any skill.

Good luck!

Been in sl for over 11 years and am learning to mesh, rig and script. I believe I can help you as Ihave pretty much done and seen it all in SL.

I've dj'd and escorted for lindens, done all manner of rp in secondlife and I am always modding and making new avatars. If all you want is a nice, unique look that makes you stand out, I can definitely help!

Let me know! ^.^ learning SL is a process. Keep that on mind.

Blender is definately your best bet fr a free program to make mesh for SL. However, converting it over to the platform will cost Lindens. The fiance uses a slew of programs for her meshing. Blender, Autodeskmaya, Avastar, just to name a few. Not to mention you'll need something akin to photoshop etc for making your own textures for that build.

As far as freebies, there a ton of things you can get for free, for either gender to take away the ruth/rob look. Including clothes and ao's. I probably have some myself I could toss you, just for helping out new folks.

I do own Photoshop for educational purposes, I have seen clothes templates too but it's not always easy to turn a idea into something "solid".

I will have time today to play some Sl, I probably won't get Lindens to upload meshes but there was a preview right?

I do love music, but I am not sure what places to go. since I have a specific taste.

If I would dj in Sl what kind of requirements would I need?

I know it depends on the place but what would I need to become dj in general?

Also, do you know any places for dj beginners?

for second life

builder mesh use 3d max studio or blender

or you can import with xtml files

Problem with 3dmax studio is the draw/strain it causes your meshes to have. Your cost for uploading them will be far higher than some other programs, unless you break it down through something like Autodesk and blender to smooth it out, and break down the strain through the polygons etc.

Oh wow. How are you finding SL so far? Are you still in it?

One piece of advice I think is very important is to remember SL is essentially an OpenGL game engine filled with content by people who don't understand how game engines work, once you realize that all of its problems begin to make a lot of sense and you can start getting the most out of it in terms of performance and content.

 Just like any videogame you want to keep polycounts and texture use as low as you can, only use masked alpha if you have to use alpha textures (you set the blending mode in SL on the model itself). Unfortunately, most people ignore all of this and that's why SL is a laggy, glitchy looking mess.

 Someone did open up a Fallout roleplaying sim recently tho!

It's been a while since I last logged into Second Life, and I last logged into Kitely. I think Kitely may be a great place to begin learning about Second Life. There is a lot of quality free stuff for newcomers, and Kitely is connected to a bunch of other grids on the hypergrid. You can upload content for free, whereas in Second Life you are charged L$ to upload anything. (You can get the hang of creating things in world without paying). I think Kitely allows you to export any sims that you create in an OAR format for OpenSim. You start with the default avatar that everyone used to start with in the old days of Second Life, but you can find free avatars at the starting center.

Hey :)

One way to get a hand on linden is to find a job in second life.... the majority of them require your avatar to look good.

You can find a lot of things for free like avatar skins, clothing, hair and much more... most of them are group gifts and require you to join a certain group before you can access them... You should hang out at BERLIN GNC it is a newbie center. If you ask nicely, they surely have some landmarks and tips of how to make your avatar prettier and look less like the avatar of a newbie. :)

As for jobs ... you can be a dancer for instance... all it takes to do so is looking good and be entertaining... your job as dancer or gogo is to entertain people at a club, keep chat rolling, greet people. I worked for a long time as dancer... I got 50 to 100 Linden Dollar per hour which isn't bad considering I don't have to put real life money into the game that way and still got linden on my hand to shop and entertain myself.

Here is a link that leads to SL DESTINATION GUIDE for Berlin GNC: http://secondlife.com/destination/gnc-newberlin

If you are logged in to SL you touch the teleport button and open the link with the viewer program to teleport to the place. Then you hopefully find someone who shows you around and helps you getting to know SL and figuring out things. :)

I love SL, but it's a broken, confusing mess maintained by a developer who has no idea what they're doing. At this point I'm not sure it's possible to make a good, easy to understand tutorial. Your best bet is to find someone in SL who can give you useful tips and answer your questions. I'd go so far as to say you should not spend a single dime on anything in SL until you have such a friend to help show you the ropes and give you a good idea of what passes for quality in SL and what is trash.

A lot of people will recommend Firestorm viewer because it's popular, but to a gamer new to SL I'd recommend Black Dragon instead. It uses standard videogame movement controls and you can even toggle "mouse steering" so your mouse will control your camera just like a typical 3rd person game (you press the 'v' key to toggle it on and off).

 If you're even halfway decent with content creation (mesh modelling, texturing, animations, sound packs, texture packs, scripting, etcetera) you can sell content you make on the marketplace and make more money faster than you ever will escorting in a sex sim.
