Animal1965 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Does anyone know of a mod or mods that can mess up Riften to the point that if I enter the city, don't do anything, turn around and exit, I cannot save my game normally. Either regular save or quicksave will cause an instant CTD. If I get past a save prompt, then when I enter a new cell, CTD. Only happens after Riften, not before or anywhere else. Kinda makes it difficult to finish any quest....seems they all require a visit to Riften.
Lodakai Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Well I am sure there are a great many different things that can lead to this. For me, it happened when i reached a string limit. In my case, this partially resolved the problem. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/? I cannot be sure it will work for you. If you do try this route, be sure to follow the install instructions including adding the DLL file. I believe you also want to set UseOSAllocators to 1 in the ini file.. but follow the instructions the author provides. you may need to revert to a game where your string count is below 65k for it to allow you to save at the point you get stuck. But I cannot be sure about that either. ETA: also if you have removed mods during your game play. you will need to run script cleaner to clear out orphaned scripts. http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/2885-fallrimtools-script-cleaner-and-more/ --------------- Another method people have used in the past... I think I saw this somewhere on an old message board. 1. Load an older save (as long as it doesn't have CTD on save glitch, then load it) 2. Create a NEW save (through pause menu) 3. Type in console command player.kill 4. Load your latest save (the one that had CTD glitch) 5. Type in console command player.kill 6. Try saving (I usually just use quicksave) This method sounds like voodoo to me.. and I have never really had luck with it. But I figured i might provide it in case you need something to do until skyrim decides to play with you again.

I forgot to mention that when I started a new game, I went to all the cities using the carriages. I even went into Riften before I started any other quests, and could not save either in Riften or after I left. I'm thinking a mod incompatibility, but I will probably have to start over and add mods one at a time to test...so tedious. Thanks for the reply, and I will look into your suggestions.
