Turning off your modem wouldn't help anyway because you'd have to turn it back on eventually, lol, and it's a virus that infects user computers in a way that reroutes you to malicious sites, I think through your search results, like Google. Since the FBI used their own DNS servers to reroute infected computers back to correct sites, they basically became the DNS servers for infected people. Now, they've stopped doing it which would leave infected computers without anywhere to go, like having the wrong address for everything and those wrong address are now all shut down. They busted those involved except one person on the run. The FBI shut down everything the virus was directing infected computers to, leaving anyone still infected in the dark. If you're worried, just run an antivirus scan because it's an old virus and well known so any good antivirus app that you've recently updated (updated definitions) should catch it for you. It really sounds like they are turning off the FBI's fix because everyone should be expected to had fixed their own computers by now. That said, I still thought this was funny: According to Internet Identity, another IT security firm, "12 percent of all Fortune 500 companies and four percent of 'major' U.S. federal agencies are still infected with DNSChanger malware."

Should i turn off my modem now? Its an internet virus, inanimate computer code generally doesn't care about geographic boundaries. Yes feel free to turn off your mdoem. Feel free to smash your modem, too. Both would be equally ineffective, as the virus simply was set to alter the DNS servers your PC connected to.

They most likely forgot about it all and it won't happen. wat its a DNS issue, so no forgetting. Anyone who didnt fix it will suddenly have a computer pointing at DNS servers that are not online, thusly they will not have internet.
