Save file is too big...

Just as the tile stated, my save file is freaking 40mb. Though it not really having an impact on my gameplay yet, but I'm starting to worry...I have save cleaner and I do clean my save often. Is there anything out there that I can use to shrink my save file?

in my opinion.. you should probably identify and remove the mod that is causing the bloat.

While it is not really recommended to remove mods mid game at all...  it seems you may be headed toward an unplayable state at some point if that trend continues.

You should look at your papyrus log. There are probably stack dumps going on.

They can bloat your saves and papyrus size really quick.

We would need to see your papyrus log and load order to help any further.

A good tool to view your papyrus is Notepad ++ and its free.

Constantly cleaning your save can sometimes do more harm than good, as it can delete references that something relies on.

I've seen this even cause the bloat in saves, making it jump 5-10MB in size.

 

The papyrus log file has little to do with the size of a save, as it's just a live stack dump. The real mass comes from the game data, script references, strings, arrays, formlists etc

 

The save file size increases the longer the playthrough, on my current heavily modded playthrough, it started at 13MB on the new game and at level 40 is now near 30MB. There's really no issue until you start pushing actually high like 70+MB, then you will notice a performance hit.

If you are on a windows machine download notepad++ it will make papyrus logs look really nice and clear.

It's difficult to determine problems through papyrus as some errors that may look horrifying are actually intended to be there.

 

In the case of null form errors.. you can look at the first 2 numbers in the second set of numbers within parentheses (08XXXXXX) in your case.  The 08 is the mod index for the offending mod that has the items that refuse to accept the script.   If you use mod organizer... the mod index is the number on the far right on your load order.. not the middle set of numbers that indicate mod priority.

You can search the page on that link for "null form" to see what is going on with that particular error.  Although there is no telling if that is the core of your problem.  It's simply A POSSIBLE problem.. and it is hard to say how large of a problem it is (at least to me.)

Some others have run into this issue a while back indicating that it could be a problem with SKYRE being unable to attach a script relating to a perk that allows the creation of scrolls.    This problem had arisen due to a bashed patch importing stats into some items that prevented the script from working properly.  Unchecking Import Stats and rebuilding the bashed patch resolved the problem for them in their case.  You can look into the conversation linked below to see if it could relate to your issue.

Oh! nice find Lodakai. I will try unchecking Import Stats out immediately. As for the number in the parentheses the 08X refers to apachiihair... I don't know how magic scrolls are any way related to hair but I will try Rebuild Bash patch and see how it goes. Thank you friend :]

If anyone is having the xxxENCQuill spam, this is the solution. Though it didn't shrink my save file, papyrus does look a lot less bloated. Though it didn't shrink my save file, hopefully this will slow down its growth. Thanks for all the helps :]
