Depleted Uranium is a denser form of natural uranium. Because of this it has many uses for not only civilians (used as a counterweight in planes, and used as a powerful gamma ray shield), but also for military programs (a very dense metal, used to help bullet penetration, and the like). However many countries have researched the metal, and find it to be a dangerous health hazard. Other countries cite research saying the opposite, that it poses no risk to health. So, what do you think? Is Depleted Uranium more of a Hazard, or more of a Resource?

Here is the wikipedia entry:

Do you really think this forum is the right place start a purely political fight.

The first thing I think of when I read this post is, now an America hater is going to start trouble on a forum I like.

I am an American and if you really want to start a flame war then I will oblige you but I believe that this forum will suffer for the shit that it looks to me you want to start.

If this is the shit that is going to start here than I will just stop coming here and this site can go to hell. :@

I assure you this isn't for a debate or anything. A friend of mine asked me to raise some awareness on a few forums, and that is my only intention. People are people, no matter the forum, or the fetish. ;)

When you ask folks to "vote" and/or give there "opinion" that in my mind is asking for a "debate" to start.

If you want to carry water for your “friend” then do so on a forum that is “political” in its nature and not on a forum that is, as you so crudely put it, for the “fetishes” of people.

AND YOU CAN SHOVE YOUR ;) UP YOUR ASS, HOW IS THAT FOR A “FETISH” ASSHOLE.

Why are you yelling? You are the only person starting an argument.

You come on this site, that as far as I have seen, does NOT try to push ANY kind of politically slanted rhetoric and has as its members folks that live in country’s from all over the world on it and ask a question that is, in its very nature, designed to be divisive.

One of the (many) reasons I come here is that it has been, until you came along with your bull shit, a nice friendly site were all of us can relax and try not to think of the political shit that are respective governments could use to have us all ready to go to war.

You seem to me to be trying to divide us along the lines of, “Which side do you think is right?”.

Your own words, your own question.

You seem to have a real problem that this site (so far) is not a “lets bash America” forum, as you would like it to be and it is you and your kind that make me sick and NEVER GIVE ME A CONDISENDING WINK AND THINK I WILL STAND FOR IT, I WILL PUT A BOOT IN YOUR ASS, THAT IS MY WAY.

I apologize, but I must interject. While I do see the reasoning behind your attempts to prevent such politically fueled debates/conflicts, and you seem patriotic enough, this is simply an opinion thread on a website with many other thread topics from which to browse. Ironically, while Doctrine may have posed the question, you, Mod, are the one fueling and posing the argument. You also appear to be the only person upset by it, as far as I can tell... If anyone else was offended by this, most likely that person had the foresight to avoid this by either closing the window or ignoring this thread altogether... A simple enough task.

Just figured I'd offer some input. I know this will probably only further fan the flames of rage, but, go figure... Someone had to do it.

(Also, note, technically any "bashing" is directed at both the US and the UN... Not just the US.)

See that, your yelling again. And your assuming that I'm some kind of Anti-American bigot. I hold a great respect for the members of this forum in that they share their minds and don't hold back in fear of some kind of "social standard." Is it that much of a crime for me to ask that level-headed group of people their opinion on an, admittedly, off-topic subject? It's like asking a college professor of philosophy his thoughts on the pennant race in Major League Baseball. Granted, there are better people to ask, who might have greater insight, but what if I do not want the opinion of those people? I want the opinion of an individual I trust, and who I respect. And here I find myself, in the forum of a community of adult modders, asking their opinion on Depleted Uranium Weapons.

Thank you roninvoid, for not losing your head.

And I apologize for the wink, it it truly offends you so much. I'm never condescending unless I'm with the person, talking verbally with them. And even then, it's always sarcastic.

Fine, you are a wonderful person just trying to get the people on this site to start the divisive debate of “Which side do you think is right?” and I am the asshole that is pissed off that this site that I found that had no politically charged rhetoric until now will soon be just one more bullshit political site.

My last post.

P.S. I do think you are some kind of Anti-American bigot

I can guarantee that one of the only English speaking adult modding communities based around the Gamebryo engine will not become a political debate site. That isn't happening.

Well, I suppose I can see why you think this may be interpreted as "anti-American"... There does seem to be a bit of bias in the wording of the original post.

"In war, the advantages of Depleted Uranium munitions help the United States stomp other countries into the ground."

If you remove that part it isn't as... "anti-American". It has quite a few other uses, as are listed on the Wikipedia entry. Also, it wouldn't be just the US using it...

Considering the fact that uranium is a toxic metal, it seems logical that the dust would have the potential (though less so than the actual uranium itself) to cause long-term effects on the body, of which birth defects and cancer may be included... It seems as though the UN's statement suggests short-term, whereas medical reports suggest potential long-term... Wikipedia says this:

"The actual acute and chronic toxicity of DU is also a point of medical controversy. Multiple studies using cultured cells and laboratory rodents suggest the possibility of leukemogenic, genetic, reproductive, and neurological effects from chronic exposure.[5] A 2005 epidemiology review concluded: "In aggregate the human epidemiological evidence is consistent with increased risk of birth defects in offspring of persons exposed to DU."[10] The World Health Organization, the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations which is responsible for setting health research norms and standards, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends, states that no risk of reproductive, developmental, or carcinogenic effects have been reported in humans due to DU exposure.[11][12] This report has been criticized by Dr. Keith Baverstock for not including possible long term effects of DU on human body.[13]"

I don't believe this was intended to be political, but, rather, about the side-effects of DU... However, the wording of the initial post could be interpreted as such if you emphasize the labeling of the parties for and against instead of the actual arguments each poses.

Also, I don't think we're suggesting you're right or wrong, Mod. You may simply be reacting a bit too passionately/defensively from the political side of things. Admittedly, the opening statement to this thread should be edited to reflect the argument rather than the political. Is DU harmful or not, rather than do you think NATO or "136 other countries" are right... Which, mind you, sounds rather biased in favour of the majority. If Doctrine removed that, perhaps you'd find that acceptable, Mod?

(I apologize if my wording/thoughts seem disorganized... I am in need of a bit of rest... :P)

Honestly, it's a template that my friend had typed up and I just copy-and-pasted it here. It does sound kinda Anti-American, I probably need to confront my friend about this. I can't have a Soviet spy in circle of friends, after all. That just screams "Anti-American."

I feed upon your delicious sarcasm! OM NOM NOM!

Nothing wrong with being a Soviet...? Maybe the spy part... :s

Your friend probably just didn't think anyone would see it like that, perhaps?

...This might be easier if we knew what country you were from... Could be anywhere. Even America. ;)

I had started typing a response to this, and by the time I looked up at the screen to read what I had typed it was about 3000 words long.... I deleted it that was the point that Mods was trying to make. No matter how one feels or thinks about anything really, when a discussion starts on a topic that some people may be very passionate about.... tempers will begin to flair. My thoughts on all this as an American who has served 4 years in the Marines... I love my country but I hate all politicians. I think all politicians are liars whether they be American or anything else. Thats all I'll say on this topic.

Well it's certainly not The Soviet Uni... Russia. That would be UNCANNY. I'm from Belde... Beldor.... Gorda... Switz...

Nah, I'm from Jersey. Ironic, ehh?

P.S. Jersey is NOT AT ALL a euphemism for Kiev. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. >_> <_<

EDIT: Ryanhabs, your opinion on politicians should be carved into a plaque and hung in the Congress Chambers. And God bless you for your service, sir. \(:|)

P.S. That was a salute, Wikipedia says so.

Power corrupts. That's about it. I'd go on, but then we'd be getting too political for something that's supposed to be about health/science.

!!!!!!This is a warning to the community only!!!!!!

This is nothing more then a widespread troll question' date=' if you take the very first line in this poll/question and google it you will come up with 300 web forums where this BS has been posted, word for word exactly the same thing. It is designed for one purpose, to cause trouble politicalforum.com, armyforums.com, phisicsforum.com, ps3trophies.org, bungie.net/forums/, RS25.com, Deviantart.com and on and on and on.

I don't know what your agenda is, although I could find out. But this sort of thing does not belong here nor is it wanted here. I will agree with Mod on this one. It is nothing more then an attempt to cause trouble within the community and bash America yet again. No response required as this will be the only time I visit this thread.

Dear God...

I was asked by a 3D hentai artist to spread the word about this topic. A 3D HENTAI ARTIST. I don't see exactly whats wrong with that. If it were the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran, I would think he was trying to start something. But, it isn't. It's the furthest thing from that. It's simply a common artist (no offense to his work) who wants the general population to be aware of a certain issue.

To the moderator of this thread; I request that you remove it from the forums as soon as possible, before someone bursts an artery. Had I known it would just stir everyone up like this and not bring up level-headed discussion, I wouldn't have started it here in the first place. I apologize to anyone who has been so "brutally offended" by this clearly "troublesome" and "disturbing" topic.

You could always try rewording the original post and deleting the... "non-constructive" comments and hope that less people are offended. If that doesn't work, perhaps it might be best to close it after all.

Depleted uranium has always interested me. Grew up on games like Doom And Quake, and particularly Quake's Railgun, according to lore, fires a heated up depleted uranium slug. 8)

What has particularly interested me even more, however, is ancient technology.

From runes and manuscripts i've managed to get a hold of and read, i can actually see a quite advanced past.

Did you know that some castles actually deployed bladed 'Crawfish'? This defensive mechanism was usually placed on a rail within the gate way, where men inside the gate house would operate a pulley, sending this bladed best back and forth, making it hard to get by without being cut up at the ankles. To add insult to injury, these weapons had two heads that were steel shrapnel infested bombs that would send splinters of metal into invaders. This was around the during the 15th century.

Another neat thing to note, we actually had scuba divers back in the same era, they would wear these skin tight leather suits, that had a special frog mouth helmet that too, was sealed hermetically. From the mouth of the helm was a long tube or snout that was buoyant enough to float to the surface and essentially allow people to breathe under water. Lower tech versions had bellows attached to the hose on shore where three men would constantly send air to the diver.

Step right up folks and be among the first site members to help turn this site onto a Politico kind of gaming forum.

We can all start to post Politically Divisive polls and threads to “help raise the awareness” of all the shit that we can muck around in.

I will just move my bookmark for this site from my “cool gaming sites” folder to my “just another Political bash rag forum ”folder”.

So, the beginning of the end of another good site, so sad.
