Here We Go Again...

...it's system upgrade time, and a fairly big one. Specs so far:

 

i7 5730K

MSI X99 MB

16 G PCC2400 RAM

32" 1440p monitor.

 

That's the good bits.

 

The HDD is an old WD 7200 RPM Black 1T well past its warranty date, so making the switch to SSD finally, Samsung 850 1T drive to replace it. Been wanting to pull the trigger on this for a while, but have been holding out for SSD prices to drop.

 

Also replacing a wheezy GTX 970 with an MSI GTX1070, the 970 would be fine @ 1080, but it struggles somewhat with 1440.

 

And finally, going to bite the bullet and do a clean install of W10 and...oh joy!...all of my games and programs. I'll then install the old drive and import settings, data, etc. then wipe it clean. If everything goes well, that is.

 

I have lots of coffee, some bananas and a monster bag of Tim's Cascade Style Jalapeno flavored chips, so I'm all set for a major-league geekout this weekend...wish me luck.

 

Edit Nov.26...machine is together and running great.

 

Skyrim on the other hand, is proving to be its usual balky annoying self...for some reason, installing ENB .308 means the game simply won't load, instant CTD...grrr.

 

Final edit:...looks OK I think, stable too

Are you having those ENB install issues with Skyrim SE or the regular one?

Something to note about HDDs. If they function fault free for the first 6 to 12 months of continuous use, they will usually last 10 years in a home computer.

 

I would suggest you keep your WD 1Tb and use it as a second drive for Steam and install games needing fast access to a secondary steam folder on your SSD.
