Modded skin textures not showing

Recently I've done a full reinstall of Skyrim (again), and everything seems to be working great, other than one issue... for some reason, the skins for special followers or custom races are not showing correctly, and just have what appears to be the CBBE skin that all the non-beast vanilla races use. The textures in the folders for them haven't been overridden, so something else is at fault.

Have pictures of the problem below: One showing a normal nord, everything working fine, then another showing the winged twilight race, which always worked fine before this latest reinstall.

 

I have enabled the papyrus logging, started the game, made a new character, then quit, but It seems the log hasn't actually been created anywhere.

Download and install LOOT and get it to sort through your load order.

 

Also try placing the mod which contains Twilight race at the bottom of the load order as well as at the bottom on the file load structure on the left of your mod organiser if you use one.

Got and been using LOOT. Only alterations to it's load order are the last few, to have those not get lumped in with the patchus maximus stuff. Been reliably putting those ones there for some time now. Tried moving the twilight race to the bottom of the load order, but still getting the same error. It's affecting both male and female bodies, so it's not anything related to bodyslide I believe...

You could try following the file path & make sure it's got the appropriate Body Textures for the race, & or open the races .nif file & check the file path that the .nif is reading, perhaps the .nif is reading the file path for the standard Skyrim's texture path & not the custom file path.

Not a bad idea at all. I know the textures are correct in the folders, as I tried replacing them in case they had been overwritten, but I had  not checked the NIF to see if the new bodies come with new texture paths. Though.. just where does it show that in nifscope >.>;.

Ah, found it with that, thanks!.. and it does indeed appear to all be pointed to one texture. If I removed that path, would it auto-use the textures for each race in the appropriate folders?

Edit: Nope, removing the file path for the textures from the bodies didn't seem to have any effect whatsoever

Correct, tried both leaving the path blank, and pointing the path directly to the folders with the correct skins. Something is overriding where the bodies are loading their skins from.

hhmmm...  have you tried opening up the Mod in the creation kit & checking the texture path that way?

 

or perhaps ALL your  race compatibility mods are conflicting with each other..  Not really sure it's that but perhaps try turning off a few mods here & there that you would think might cause some sort of issue or even turn ALL your mods off & only leave said mod & it's dependencies ON & try it again.  & if that fixes it then it's mostly a Mod conflict & you'll need to re-Activate each mod 1 at a time to find the one causing the issue.

Seeing how it's ALL non-vanilla races, it may be a compatability mod. So, for checking for which mod may be doing it, I don't need to uninstall the mod, just toggle .esp on or off? 

 

Edit; Tried it, disabled all but the most essential mods, and it worked, skins ar back! ....Now to track down the cause.

you don't know what the mods you pick are doing? it's custom race that replace your textures by the ones in its folders (head load right because the game load texture path from the nif for them, because of the tintmasks)

Turn 5 mods on at a time till it reappears then turn all but one from the last set you turned on and check and repeat till it's gone again then you will know which one is causing it. You can also find a texture path by clicking the item and looking for the BSShaderTextureSet underneath the highlighted line in the left click the arrow next to it to get the drop down.

Found it! Was a optional ESP file of horny werewolves of skyrim. Little tiny detail mentioning it not working with custom races, which actually means it messes up the races regardless of if you are a werewolf or not. Feeling a bit stupid right now...

I'll Tell ya... We all have made these mistakes before that's how we learn & become either better Gamers or Better Modders,  so don't feel stupid, your far from it..

 

But I am Really, Glad you found the culprit.
