Best Tutorial on Creating Custom Race Followers?

Could someone please give me recommendations on the best guides/tutorials on creating custom race followers? Preferably something modern (2014 or newer) and RaceMenu based.

 

Also, any advice on tweak existing custom race followers.

I'm particularly interested in any advice on how to swap out hair without destroying the faces.

The overall project I'm looking to create is to make a basic set of 4-6 custom races for each of the major bodies (CBBE, 7B, UNPB) etc... and then consolidate any custom follower mods that I like onto those races (matching the body that the follower started with) to reduce skin texture bloat, while at the same time fixing any errors/brokeness that I find when I look under the hood of the plugin.

 

I'd prefer a written guide, but YouTube tutorials are fine as well.
