Mod translation

Hello,

 

I am experienced with translating DLC ( ex. did Pinacle Station and Genesis for Mass Effect) and currently studying English with translator specialization ). I have unexplained desire to translate few of the mods here to my native language (Polish) purely for fun, but the problem is that I always had people working with me hand me a file with text to translate and here I have no idea how to obtain that file. Would someone explain to me how to do it? What program do I have to use?

Translating a mod for Skyrim has at least two parts.

Some lines are inside the .esp file (for example dialogues, actor names, armor names, weapons, etc.)

To translate them you need to translate the ESP file. There are a couple of tools on Nexus that help in opening the esp, finding all the strings and let you translate and save back the esp in your language.

 

Some other cases are for mods that use scripts.

For who uses the MCM, and follows the SKSE translation method, then you have a file called <modname>_Enlgish.txt inside the Interface folder.

Keep the keys on the left, and translate everything that is on the right after the Tab character.

 

Some other mods use a different translation method (for example a couple of my mods) where the translation are in a JSON file.

 

What exactly you need to translate may vary from mod to mod.
