Freezing problem

I'm having a problem that has just randomly started occurring and what's happening is when I walk back to Dawnstar or even quick travel to there, my game will freeze. I can load an older save and walk around Dawnstar, go in and out of buildings just fine. But if I leave the area, say; to the giant camp and back, the game will just freeze shortly after entering the town. Also just before freezing my frame rate will fall and I'll experience some frame skipping.

 

I've checked the mods for any bad references, checked for conflicts, created a bashed patch.

I read through my paypyrus log and it looked to be that the most recent entries were from Sexlab Aroused, I disabled it and that didn't effect it at all. I tinkered around, disabling other mods that I thought might be contributing to the problem. I ended up disabling ETaC and it stopped bugging, I tinkered around some more and though I forgot how I decided to try it, I uninstalled the Static mesh improvement mod; and with ETaC renabled I tested again without SMIM and it seems to be working fine.

 

I'm kind of confuzzled about this... I understand that overdoing the graphics can cause a CTD, but when starting out in Dawnstar my game loads it just fine without any issue and runs fine, any drop in framerate I do get is usually negligible.
