Weird Crash Issues and I'm Tired - Please Help D:

So I've been struggling with crashes pretty much during my whole.. Skyrim modding career. Even as I started using more sophisticated methods I could never quite get rid of the dreaded CTDs coming back sooner or later... crashes were always what drove me away from skyrim again and again. So I'm finally giving up on trying to solve these things on my own. x-x

I've recently started a completely new game, been playing for the past couple of days, and even though I've added some mods during gameplay(mostly armour mods) I haven't removed or tweaked any major ones that I settled on. Sometimes it is stable enough to last for hours. and I even fell asleep with my character in Glenmoril cave with those witches and it didn't crash the whole time. In fact certain areas seem entirely safe, especially qasmoke. But once in a while it just crashes. It would completely disallow me from entering a certain area at one point(Lagrasbur where you do the malacath quest). First I'd crash when entering the chieftain's hut, then later when I fast travelled somewhere else it wouldn't let me travel back without a crash. I tried to eliminate the problem by creating a new profile and re-enabling all mods in bundles until I found the culprit... and I never found it because I wasn't arsed to change the loading order(though the most important things were in the right places) and I couldn't reproduce the crash despite having the exact same mods as my other profile sorted by loot!

But there's one thing that is really bugging me - my character's saves will almost never load. I crash to desktop. The only way to load my character's saves is to somehow jumble up my loading order on a different profile(the first profile was sorted by LOOT with a few tweaks of my own as per the instructions of certain modders whose mods I use).

...that or to load my older savegame that I made in qasmoke and THEN load my freshest save. Then it loads np for some reason ._. ...I find this simply bizarre... especially considering I tried to ensure this particular character will have a squeaky clean start. I cleaned my esms with tes5edit, I sorted everything with loot, I tried to be minimalist with the script heavy mods.

My savegame does not have any unattached instances or whatever. At least with my basic PDT Wrapper knowledge it doesn't seem to show any conflicts(because again, I haven't really messed with scripted mods much ever since I started this playthrough).

This is my loading order based on what LOOT recommended(though I moved ASIS and Dual Sheath Redux as well as Better Vampires around the way I've been instructed.)

Also, for some reason my LOOT, which I load through MO, doesn't seem to find SKSE and keeps telling me to download it. It didn't locate Skyrim.esm either until I made a copy of it in my MO mods.

Using that crash logs method outlined in another thread is giving me many different results as well. I'm just hoping maybe there is something about my loading order that is screwing everything up that I've missed and not some deeper problem.

The fact that you're crashing only after a few hours of gameplay or that your game can't handle loading all assets unless starting in small cell like qasmoke indicates to me that you're simply running out of memory to be honest.

Posted

I'm not surprised that your crashing in the least with the perfect storm of mods combined together.

Also I have no idea if you have SKSE Memory Tweak properly installed, or are using ENBboost properly installed...What INI bad tweaks your using.

Lets be honest here,

Cant say its specifically one mod, as they will function fine by themselves.

Thing is when you start trying to run them alongside a whole bunch of other ambitious mods well then you get issues.

Some easy things to just point at,

You have Better Vampires and a Werewolf Overhaul at the same time for the same playtime.

You also have a lot of mods that are lets be honest very demanding on their own.

HDThighheels

BetterVampires

ASIS

Werewolf stuff

DualSheathRedux

I could just go on and on and before you know it I just listed out your entire load order and pissed off half the mod makers out there.

You should always follow your own technical support thread otherwise the forum wont give you notice unless I quote your FN post.

Ok I put notes next to your mods.

There you go, bear in mind you have a lot of stuff I don't even recognize but the ones I marked are all your big offenders, I would never put them into my Load Order for "REASONS".

I will not explain "REASONS"

You just have to accept that I have "REASONS"

If you want your girl to use high heels you gotta look for mods that use NIO Override Heels instead.

Another helpful tip that a lot of people don't know or understand.

Script Load and FPS matter.

If your FPS isn't high number like in the 50-60 range you shouldn't be installing a whole bunch of script mods.

If your FPS isn't high and your going to run script mods than you really should not install Texture Mods and Mesh Enhancement Mods.

ENB Presets and SweetFX, or Shader Mods all impact your FPS, you have to be real honest with yourself about what your standing FPS is under load.

IF your FPS is 45+ under stress your in pretty good shape, but you would most certainly be better off if your FPS was holding steady closer to 60.

Skyrim must have its FPS capped at 60 in some fashion, there are many different ways but the easiest one is to simply turn on Vsync.

Posted

Yeah that is A LOT of intensive mods, what kind of CPU/GPU do you have? Also gameplayer is completely correct, if your FPS isn't stable your mods, especially scripted ones aren't going to run optimally. Unfortunately if your rig cant hold a stable FPS I don't think it's a good idea to have that many scripted mods

The fact that you're crashing only after a few hours of gameplay or that your game can't handle loading all assets unless starting in small cell like qasmoke indicates to me that you're simply running out of memory to be honest.

Well, the crashes can be fairly random, sometimes my game lasts through pretty intense fights and then it crashes during fairly peaceful moments. You might be right though, sometimes I forget to shut down my chrome in the background. If I have a browser running could that cause issues? I'm running Skyrim on a GE72 laptop, 970m card, i7 6700, 8 gb ram.

I'm not surprised that your crashing in the least with the perfect storm of mods combined together.

I didn't realise they're all that intense. D: despite modding for years I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to the finer technical details. Dual Sheath Redux seemed like a fairly tiny edit to me, for example, since it doesn't really seem to do much at first glance but add another sheath when you dual wield yet when I think about it maybe it isn't all that small after all.

I thought I had the ini tweak installed but apparently not. Although I had safety load and that other mod. I'll try running skyrim with the skse.ini tweak then and make sure I don't have anything in the background.

But which mods would you recommend disabling? Any particular ones that stand out? I'm not really sure which ones are more taxing personally.

My fps is around 50-60 most of the time, in dungeons and the wilderness at least, because I don't really use any ENBs though I tried a few out today just to see if I could find one for simply taking screenshots. In case I am experiencing problems should I have an ENB at all, even if its disabled, or should I remove it completely?

In cities my fps is usually somewhere around 35-45 when looking in certain directions.

By the way, thanks for replying guys, appreciate it. :)

Dual Sheath redux and many mods like it add a script via a spell effect.

Dual Sheath in particular has quite a long range so that players will not see the npcs suddenly have their 2nd sheath equipped.

It is fairly well known on LL that this mod and many like it are using script load time that could cause issues with other popular mods.

It has a fairly fast refresh rate as well, this of course gets to be a problem, since if some other mod is interrupted cause it couldn't get in the que you wind up with a stack dump, crash and burn.

That will happen even during peaceful times.

The method employed by Dual Sheath is rather a common method and has resulted in the need of a mod called "BRAWL BUGS"

I can hardly imagine that you have never heard of Brawl Bugs.

NPC's will of coarse not be brawlable without going full hostile without BB mod.

This is because the player emanates a Spell Cloak to apply effects,

Almost ALL mods that make changes to NPC's in a dynamic fashion employ this method

Cloak Spell, Cast every 5 seconds on player refresh 1 second, apply said script all NPC's in 5 cell block around player.

If you use console commands and SkyUI you'd be surprised just how many mods apply this spell effect to make its stuff work.

Stack enough of that crap on your game it doesn't matter what your hardware is.

Its been a bad method that has been used over and over again by almost every single popular mod.

AND almost No where do any of the mod authors fess up about it.

Skyrim's papyrus system is not limitless.

Dual Sheath Redux

Is every second or 5 seconds taking up Papyrus time.

Its refresh rate is insane and it covers a massive zone around the PC.

Frostfall

Better Vampires

Most Werewolf Overhauls

All do this.

Needs mods do similar things but usually without a Cloak spell.

I say usually because only a few of them will use a cloak spell to reach out and pre-determine the contents of a container and then reconfigure that so you have a chance of spoiled food.

Is there any way to make dual sheath apply only to the pc? im thinking that it would reduce the strain DSR puts on my game? I really love having two sheaths but I can certainly live without the NPCs having it since most of them don't even dual wield(yet they still get the cloak applied, right?) and those that do usually attack me on sight anyway(thinking briarhearts).

I've also a tiny 'no enchantment' mod dependent on SKSE - would it help a little if I disabled that one?

Posted

I've never actually bothered looking around for one that doesn't employ a script.

Pretty sure no one ever thought it would be worth their time to make a mod that only applies the second sheath to the player, since well Dual Sheath Redux already does this.

A new mod that claims to do it better doesn't usually get well received even if it in fact does the job better, and on top of that the incentive is likely lower off the bat anyway.

There are just loads of mods that I would like to be seen re-done but the question is "how" as I am not aware of everything to how to get it done.

There may be programmers around that know that also play but as I said the incentive to make improved versions of mods is fairly low.

Well, after quite a bit of trial and error what seems to have had the biggest impact is disabling OneTweak.

1) I got rid of that annoying diagonal screen tear

2) although the fps numbers look the same the game seems smoother

3) no crashes so far and not for the lack of trying. afked in places that made my fps dip to 35, died a bunch of times and reloaded fighting 6+ bandits etc.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here but I'm guessing OneTweak isn't very viable for a laptop user considering I have two GPUs and I'm having trouble running many games in windowed mode. Could anybody confirm if this could be a source of my problems?

My fps seems to deteriorate whenever I reload too many times as well. Any way to avoid that?
