scottlmoser Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Looking for advice on my pc build.here it is as of now. cpu~ intel i7 6700k Motherboard ~Gigabyte GA-Z170xp, LG 1151 Memory ~G.Skill Ripjaws V series 64gb Video card ~Gigabyte GeForce gtx 970 4gb (planning on two of those video cards )for use of 2way sli. Power supply ~EVGA 750w O.S.~Windows 10 64bit Monitor ~Asus,VG248qe,144Hz,24 in. Based on this build do you believe I can run physics mods and others at better then low graphics? Thanks for any and all advice.
SepticSpoon Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 From the looks of your specs and personal experience with modding skyrim. I would say you could run everything fine. (If you set it up correctly) for example with an enb they usually require you to turn "Antialiasing", "Anisotropic Filtering" and "FXAA" off. Also some people, me included turn "shadow detail" down to high/medium to help in performance. I have a GTX 980 ti and i run skyrim perfectly well on that. I would advise against going with sli as i did have a second 980 ti but skyrim really doesn't like sli in my experience. But maybe i just didn't set it up correctly. ALso if you are going to upgrade to sli you might want to upgrade your power supply as well to handle the extra power the cards will need. Â I am not a computer expert. This is just what i "think" would be best. But other than that you have a nice rig to run skyrim on.
scottlmoser Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Thanks for your input Spoons666.great info on the sli.just the type of insight I was looking for.
Serithi Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 You've actually pretty much got the same setup as me, just with even more RAM. You're probably gonna run into Skyrim's own 32bit limits before you run into hardware limits :v.
Guest Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Just know that windows 10 has a limitation on the memory that skyrim can use for DX9 architecture and when you run skyrim its best to run it at 60fps opposed to 144fps, if you go above 114fps you'l notice indoors things will clang around physics goes crazy and you'll even be swimming through the air in some places. Below that is fine though but you'll get some stutter lag all and all for a more smooth performance all around you'll want to stick with 60fps. Â Is there a reason why you have 64gb of ram? If you want to stick with 16 than it wont really make a difference i don't know what you could possibly be doing to use that much. Â For sli know that most games wont make good use of this or at least to its full potential I would just recommend 1 card try the 1070 you would even save money for what is probably the same performance as two 970s in sli http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-970-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1070/2577vs3609Â Just know that when you see the benchmark for 1 card you can't double that performance with two in sli it just doesn't work that way.

That's nothing to do with Windows 10, it's a software thing. Skyrim's engine is meant to run no higher than 60fps or the physics simulation stuff goes out of whack, stuff desychs and gets messed up.

If you have Windows 8/10 DirectX 9 has an imposed 4GB Memory Limit or 4064mb that is VRAM+RAM  2.) The physics issue has to do with skyrims engine.
scottlmoser Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Thanks for the advice guys. Will take all this into account.
Serithi Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016   Just know that windows 10 has a limitation on the memory that skyrim can use for DX9 architecture and when you run skyrim its best to run it at 60fps opposed to 144fps, if you go above 114fps you'l notice indoors things will clang around physics goes crazy and you'll even be swimming through the air in some places. The physics issue has to do with skyrims engine.  The memory thing's still nothing to do with Windows directly. That's 32bit architecture for you, it flat-out can't access more than 4gb of memory. It's not an imposed limit, it literally can't use the additional memory.
scottlmoser Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 I was getting Windows 10 for my daughter who is dying to play Sims 4.As to using 64gb of memory I was just thinking. But after this info I believe I will stick with 16gb. As before thanks for the insight you guys saved me $$$ and very big headache.
Serithi Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 64gb is overkill, unless you're doing 3D modeling or photoshopping or the like, since that stuff tends to use a lot of memory. Otherwise, 16gb is pretty normal.
