ENB crash, why Thalos-Allmighty?

Greetings,

I recently decided to install a ENB called "Poupouri" (apparently pretty famous) and things started to go wrong.

No problem with my game before that, probably because I had the good idea to make a clean installation by following this guide:

Then things went array. The problem developed in three parts

First I launched the game after following the ENB's instructions. I "can" play but with graphisms such as:

I do assume it is a problem of antiliasing of some sort, the author of Poupouri mentions it after all.

I checked: my antiliasing is indeed disabled through the skyrim launcher. I assume I did the correct thing?

End of part 1.

Then I check everything again (values of my .ini files, etc.).
I make sure to load a save in a small cell then I launch again.

Part 2 of the problem:
- The game loads,
- Starts for 1-2 seconds when I can see  that the visual problems are gone,
- Then I got CTD (to not say heart-cancer).

 

Part 3 of the problem:

Sometimes it just works. But never perfeclty. For instance, I got these problems every single time, even if my game doesn't crash:

- Interiors are still highly bugged (see links)

- Water and spells do not appear (either transparent or invisible).

It is the second time (I tried yesterday evening) that I got these issues.
I checked my plugins, my performance, the author's recommandations, several links and I do have a clear an stable skyrim installed.
Please, for the sake of Thalos Almighty, could you help me?

 

I use the latest fnis version, the latest skse version and the latest ENBboost version (n°308).

I also use MO and always update my fnis when I add or remove mods.

Let me guess:
 
Your OS is Windows 10 and you have a Nvidia graphics card?
 
I guess you have two options:
 
- Reinstall the DirectX runtime (June 2010). If you are lucky that should fix it.

- Try an older ENB. The latest ENB exe I can run on my computer (Win 10 64, Nvidia GTX 960 4GB) is version 0.262.

If I install a newer ENB (0.292 or 0.308) skyrim crash to desktop no matter if I load a save or start a new game.

Hmmm...

 

Very, very strange.

I do thank you for your solutions I never heard about them before.

 

I think my computer just got full retard. One time out of three (there is... irmpovement? I guess?) my game works.

Then it doesn't. I have to try many different things (loading LOOT again and again; reinstalling my ENB settings; or applying the abovementioned solutions).

 

I suspect a few things: the newest windows 10 update, the Nvidia settings, windows and bugs created by the newest (v. 308) ENB.

Just guesses, of course.

 

Anyway... Thank you very much for your help, Corum.

If the problems persist or/and and find a solution for other people, I will let you know guys.

In my opinion the problem is caused by Windows 10. Microsoft decided that DX 9 is outdated so they don't seem to care if there are problems or not. In most cases this isn't really much of a problem, but it's different when it comes to ENBs.

 

I had real problems to get a stable setup with Skyrim on Windows 10. So at last I did the following:

 

1. Installed Skyrim and all Mods I wanted to use without anything that needs ENB.

2. During this phase I frequently tested if Skyrim was still stable by starting a new game. If you get CTD right at the start, something goes really wrong.

3. Made a "base installation" of the ENB. That means I installed only pure ENB as delivered without any customization. Edited the [MEMORY]-section to my needs and the [GLOBAL]-section so it don't uses any effects. (UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true)

 

If the game ist stable at this point it's time to give it a try by setting UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false.

 

If the game CTD try an older ENB until you get one that is working. Like I said before any ENB newer than 0.262 is crashing immediately to desktop when I start using any effects. At this point (when the game is stable at least) the only thing left to do is finding a nice preset for the ENB.
