Would it be possible to just open the database with a file dialog instead of the drop down box? It never detects my databases.

Hi, you have explained long time b4 how to add text for new/or animations without text, but I don's see how apropos will recognize which animation is in question (even if name of text will be in unique animation text). What is that which will connect animation with specific text? Also how to add new stage text to already existing texts (for example if there is 4 stages for vaginal animation and I have animation with 5 stages where I want to use 4 old texts and to add mine new 5th? And in the end have you write some guide for your great tool?

Apropos listens for events sent by the SexLab framework, which tells Apropos when an animation starts, when it changes scene, when someone orgasms, and crucially for the unique animation system, what the ID and Name of the animation being played are. Whenever a scene starts or the animation changes, Apropos gets an event with the animation ID, like 'ArrokCowgirl' or 'leito69', which it then searches UniqueAnimations.txt to see if that animation is registered as Unique. If so, it looks up the files for it by adding FemaleActor_ or MaleActor_ in front of the ID, so can start showing lines from FemaleActor_ArrokCowgirl_Stage1.txt, for example.

You can add or remove stages by right clicking any stage's header (the text that says 'Stage 1/2/etc' or 'Orgasm/Intro'), which will show options to add new stages above or below, or remove the selected stage.

Other than the OP, I haven't really written a full guide... I'll probably write one up for the 1.2 release, which is still on the way, just somewhat glacially. I just got wordwrap mostly working, so I'll probably throw up a 1.2a4 sometime soon.

I never added automatic detection, if you select <Other> the standard file dialog will show up. Once you select a database folder with that it'll get added to the drop down box and saved for the next time you open the editor.

That is the right folder to put the editor in, but you still need to select the folder in the dropdown at the top of the editor, where it should say <other>. Select that, and then choose the db folder in the window that comes up.

The location of the 'Apropos_Edit-1.2a3.jar' is merely a shortcut to make selecting the database's folder easier, you still need to tell the editor where to look.

Ah, i just thought it had to remain "other". Thanks!

Looking at the stuff now, it does show that circumstances where my male pc gets described as a female, has options for male in here too. So I don't know why, when masturbating for instance, he is supposedly rubbing his clit.

Apropos was designed with a female player character in mind, and so the support for male pc's is pretty limited. One of those limitations is there is no support for male masturbation in first person, so all masturbation anims play the female-specific lines.

I believe Apropos X is aiming to remedy this though, but in the meantime, check darthmaulbm's posts on the submissions thread, he's been producing stuff with the male perspective in mind, so that might be up your alley.

Whew, making progress again!

I should have made this like the week after the 1.2a3 release, just for the two bug fix commits in that time, but better late than never I guess.

Main Changes and new Features

  • Word Wrapping: Easily one of the biggest improvements yet, this really should have been in from the start. Took quite a bit of work and experimenting, and did bring up a few scrolling issues, but reducing the horizontal size of the main window or subwindows no longer throws up another scroll bar, giving you much more room to work with on smaller screens.
  • Tabs: The main window now opens new files in new tabs, instead of only displaying one at a time. You can close tabs with `CTRL + W` and cycle through them with `CTRL + Tab` and `CTRL + SHIFT + Tab`. This means I now have an easy place to put search results, so expect that soon!
  • Update Notification with Auto-Updater: Who knows how many of you will notice the 'Update Available: 1.2a4' text in the title of your editor, but when 1.2a5 or 1.2 comes out, it should be a lot more obvious. I added a new dependancy for it, but now when a new version is released, the editor will fetch the GitLab release description, just like this one you're reading here, and display it in a tab with a download button for the new version's `.jar`.
  • Synonyms Editor Viewer: Not quite all the way there yet, making it actually allow editing and stop shitting errors everywhere is going to take a lot more work. At the moment, it'll just allow you to see all the synonyms in each of the three files, but I figured that helpful enough to include it in this update.
  • Progress Bars: This is mostly to replace the 'File Written!' popup and things like that, but there's a little bar and status message in the bottom left which will let you know if the editor is currently busy with something. It'll be much more useful with the search, but for now it'll show how far through Unify Formatting is.
  • Alphabetical Line Sorting: Speaking of Unify Formatting, clicking that will now bring up an option dialog asking if you want each line in a perspective sorted alphabetically. Not super useful yet since I haven't added a way to apply the ordering for 1st person to the 2nd person lines, so they won't match after sorting, but I found it very handy for comparing databases where lines were added in different orders, like when merging the Resistant Theme into my own.
  • Shortened Filenames: The big dropdown box for selecting a pairing or unique animation now contracts `FemaleActor_` to `FA_` and `MaleActor_` to `MA_`, reducing the width of the sidepanel by a fair bit.
  • Unix Support: Java is multiplatform, so why not fix the few issues preventing the editor from running on Mac or your favourite distro.
Bug Fixes
  • Actually added MMMMMF support, I forgot about it in the last update because there weren't any files for it.
  • Fixed the Copy/Paste from System Clipboard stripping {}'s, which made it basically useless.
  • Refresh/Re-select Button (F5) now works on sub-windows too.
  • Fixed some unhelpful perspective shifting from 1st->2nd, like `Oh my!` going to `Oh your!`.

I'm having troubles with getting this to work. Or i'm not sure if it's apropos itself.

I made some changes to the lines in the editor, deleted few and changed the synonyms to be more to my liking but I can't get them to appear in the game.

I have tried: Refreshing apropos from mcm, re-installing apropos, tried older versions of apropos and this editor for shits and giggles, even tried a fresh install of skyrim but no luck.

Help a noob out.

I'm sure you're not the only one this has happened to, but some more info would help. What lines/files are you editing? How do you have Apropos Installed? Mod Organiser? NMM? With Apropos Edit, are you sure you've selected the files that are ending up in your Skyrim's Data folder when you open the game? Have you made your changes to each of the themes you have installed as well?

Though this editor is meant to make messing with Apropos easier, it's still quite complicated

This far I have only edited FemaleActor_Male vaginal files, synonyms and arousal descriptions.

I installed Apropos and JContainers with NMM, though I have tried manual installation as well.

In the editor for Apropos \db\ location I clicked <other> and selected the db folder. It is now D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\Common\Skyrim\Data\Apropos\db.

I have not made any changes to the themes... Is that the problem?

As far as I know you're doing all of that right, I'm a little fuzzy on how NMM does things nowadays, but editing the files as they're moved or linked into the datafolder should be fine.

The reason I mentioned themes is they have a tendency to overwrite changes made to the main database. You probably have BDSM and Resistant installed if you're using a recent copy of Apropos, which means if they're selected by the RNG ingame, Apropos will use files from those folders instead. This should only impact descriptions for your FA_M files if you're editing the rape ones, since— wait. *Double Checks* Oh goddurnit @gooser. The resistant folder contains a copy of the consensual part of the main DB.

Anyway, what this means for your edits is: Any changes you make to the consensual files in db\FemaleActor_Male\, you'll want to copy paste into db\resistant\FemaleActor_Male. Any changes you make to the Synonyms and descriptors you'll want to copy paste into db\resistant and db\bdsm. Either that or disable themes.

I've tried to create a custom animation file.  I made the name FemaleActor_AnimationName, yet when the animations plays it doesn't use the file at all.  It doesn't use any descriptions what so ever.  I added a tag to the animation, and it will play descriptors for that tag just fine.  Is the file just not recognizing the tags on it?  If I put a tag on it, it will randomly choose what file it will play which would suck.  How do I get it to only play the 1 file I give it?

Oh wow.. thank you so much for this compiled setup. I really abhorred the butchered texts regarding various animated scenario's and wanted to rewrite or expand upon the variation of wording and triggers!

I see there is a limit on how many characters can be put in for each of the lines for each stage.
Is this hard coded? Or could it  be expanded upon?

I've found it a bit of a struggle to not quite fit enough text in to articulate a proper descriptive scene. Having to edit a more descriptive sentence into a shortened cliff note variant of context.  Now, I'm not trying to write out a paragraph with each timed msg but having double the allowed characters would help build a better descriptive narrative to the scenes in each scenario's stage.

Has anyone been able to get this to work with Apropos2? I switched to SSE a while back, and Apropos apparently doesn't work with SSE, so my only option for now is Apropos2. I've followed the installation instructions but I can't seem to open the jarfile (even the command prompt tells me it can't access the jarfile). I was able to get this to work in the past with Apropos, so something must be different, but I don't know what it could be.
