[Animation Question] How to make attack animation have multiple hits?

Hey guys i am trying to edit an attack animation to make it register more than 1 hit, I didn't think this possible before i downloaded elysees katana animations and found that her attackpowerforward animation have not 2 but 3 hits and seeing how i only used the animation files in the mod i am hoping it may be something i can do with 3dx max.
