I don't find it funny cus wreck is literally a synonym of collision

To me the term "near miss" sounds like it is used incorrectly all the time.   Think about it, is not a near miss actually a collision?

Is it not like saying " he almost missed" ?

George Carlin is a famous American Comedian and Social Critic. I was gonna say British then but I got him mixed up with Billy Connolly
