Some Advanced Modding Questions for Pro's

Hey guys, I'm looking for a really experienced modder to answer a few questions for me.

I've been modding for about a year now, running around 200 mods and just BARELY getting the game playable. Regardless of which, Sexlab, STEP, or GOPHER tutorial's I follow, there's always issues not covered that end up breaking my game or just making something a bit off. I've had it all working before but after about 80 hours in, I had some serious save/script bloating that just ruining the game.

So now, after creating some of my own Fallout 4 Texture mods (I'm a Graphics Designer, not a programmer), I'm back to modding Skyrim. I've removed all the mods I don't REALLY need, and I'm just downloading the ones from STEP I want or need, and then the ones I know have worked before that I can't do without. Mostly LL mods. Because we all know Lovers Lab has the best mods. ;)

But here's where I have some questions.

1. When I run FNIS with Mod Organizer, it puts files into my OVERWRITE folder, which we all know. Before today, I've always left those there. I JUST TODAY read, that I need to remove them all. So, each time I run FNIS I've been taking those OVERWRITE folders and dropping them into my DATA folder, which is where the other FNIS Folders they overwrite are. Hopefully that made sense. Is this the proper way to do things or am I screwing something up? I'm not having issues with it, I just want to finally know what the hell I'm doing and why.

2. I get CTD's every 10 or so mods I add, and prior to today, I've always just gone through each mod until I found the one that stopped the CTD's, and deleted it. But, I don't want to delete mods anymore I want to fix them. I was watching a Tutorial about how you can remove the errors in TESVedit but I'm afraid to do it because the tutorial wasn't thorough enough, and his examples weren't the same as the errors I am getting.

Basically, if a mod is dark red, it's got some conflicts, which isn't always bad, but when I go in and look at them, and there's fucking THOUSANDS, and I click one of the red files, I'll see 2 mods with the exact same writing in each line. But one mod will have something different written. For example (From memory), 2 mods will say something about "Outside" and the third mod will say "Outside, Independent" or something like that.

Now from what that guy was saying in his tutorial, you would just change the one mod's text, to have the same thing written as the other two have and that would fix it. But I'm not about to do that until I know if that's right, and why.

3. Also, Load Order can't just be trial and error. How are you all making sure your load orders are correct? I use guides and what I know to work but certainly there's a better way. More science then art... Right? Taking three days to properly mod Skyrim each time is killing me.

Tanks for all your help ahead of time. Hopefully I can get some really good answers.

And for the record, here's my Mod Load Order, not that it matters. Side Note: It's not finished, I'm only halfway through modding my game right now. This is just where I'm stuck due to CTD's. If anyone could help with that you'd be my god for a day.

You don't need Highrestexturepack01, 02 and 03 checked along with the unofficial patch for them, they're dummy mods made so they can load the BSAs, as the MO warning will tell you.

Also Underground Bathhouse seems to be a real problem whore, at least for me anyways.

As for your questions.

1. That's pretty much the proper way to do it although having a new folder inside the MO Mods folder would be a better way.

2. Make backups and then try?

3. Use LOOT, it's built into MO.

Underground Bathhouse caused me issues before as well, but only the textures, and ALL my textures were screwed up and missing back then so I wanted to try it again. I really liked the look of it. I'm sure I could find something better but I'm afraid to delete or add mods. lol.

I definitely do use LOOT

Also, if I uncheck the High Res TExture Packs, the Unofficial High Res Patch loses it's masters and I get an error.

Also, if anyone knows this answer... When FNIS puts folders in the OVERWRITE, I'm creating a New Mod out of it, but that only works once. Then I have to rename a NEW ESP to create a new mod to get them out of the Overwrite EVERYTIME I use FNIS. I heard I can merge these Mods, but I just can't figure out how, even with the help of other forums and google.

Like you said, I could just throw them all in the FNIS folders in DATA, which just overwrites the old ones, I just don't like having loose files in Skyrim.

man those high res texture packs seem to be always on when people have problems. scrap them and get purity.

I've got a self built $4,000 dollar GTX980 SLI, 32 Gigs of Ram PC. It can handle the Textures. lol. ;)

THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS

Then you're good. LOOT pretty much does the work but sometimes can fuck up. Generally what Readmes are for, they'll sometimes give you a loadorder because LOOT isn't too great. You can edit the metadata in LOOT so that it loads after a certain thing.

Also, if I uncheck the High Res TExture Packs, the Unofficial High Res Patch loses it's masters and I get an error.

Then uncheck Unofficial High Res Patch. Again, same thing. It's a dummy file meant so it'll load the BSA, doesn't do anything.

Also, if anyone knows this answer... When FNIS puts folders in the OVERWRITE, I'm creating a New Mod out of it, but that only works once. FNIS shouldn't create a new ESP/ESM file when you run it. If it does then it's behaving really strangely. Create a new SEPARATE folder from where you installed FNIS and drop them in there, every time you run FNIS again drop them in the same folder and allow them to overwrite

Doesn't matter about your rig, Skyrim will still find a way to fuck up. Also you're using an MSI Motherboard >.>

Are you using an ENB? Or at least ENBoost? I don't really know the technical shit but if you use an ENB it will boost your memory since Skyrim doesn't use all of the memory and can cause crashes.

LOL Burn! Yea, well, I had to cut a corner on cost somewhere. lol

Yea I use ENBoost and an ENB (RealVision).

Thanks for the help man that makes a lot of sense. I'll just keep dumping the FNIS files into DATA.

Windows 10 huh, you will never use more than 4096 RAM(That's the maximum) on Skyrim. That means you will be using 3714 or less RAM for Skyrim.

Memory Section of STEP Guide for ENB

EDIT: I am running nearly 400 Mods with plugins (I merged a huge number of them and that was a FUCKING LONG PROCESS!!). The only time I get crashes is when i am using my For Fun Profile (Its the one I use when I want to have fun or test mods out)

Yeah I use Mod Organizer so I have 2 profiles,

The first profile being Vanilla&BugFixes(that can include any kind of bugfixes, ranging from animation to content)&Content mods

And the second profile being Modded Skyrim&Testing mods&Sexlab mods&Animations.

I get crashes only when I use the 2nd profile, granted I was getting crashes on my 1st profile too but since i fixed alot of problems i barely get any on my 1st.

sorry for the late reply. but the problems the high res packs cause has nothing to do with whether or not your computer can handle it graphically . your INI  settings could be off to.

this guy just made my game a lot more stable on my 10 year old 4 thousand dollar rig.

All the things what that guy says is something you should already be doing them yourself.

Honestly we all knew about all those things the moment they come out. Maybe you just didnt search enough to find them.
