Sidereel Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 It's been a couple years since I played Skyrim. Back then my pc was just good enough to use an ENB, so I always ran one.So I've come back to play Skyrim again, and my pc is much better, but no matter what enb I use, or what settings I alter, every single ENB causes CTD when loading into the game. I've tried Realvision, Somber, Superb, Bleak, and even a couple I've found through this site, and they all crash my game.I have a i5-4960k oc'd to 4.6Ghz and watercooled Sli GTX 970 SC ASX 2 16 GB ram installed on 500GB Samsung SSD. My system should be able to handle it no problem, but it doesn't. Does enb not play well with SLI? I even went and found the specific versions the enbs called for, tried using the newest enbseries version, nothing seems to prevent crashes. Anyone familiar with enbs that can help me with some troubleshooting?
Guest MonsterFish Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49547/? Follow the 'How to Install' instructions on this page (Doesn't have to be this ENB and disregard the 'Enable TK_ENB' thing). I'd like to draw attention to the first line here. Download latest version ENB files and copy the "d3d9.dll" and "enbhost.exe" to your skyrim folder. That is, ONLY the d3d9.dll and enbhost.exe in the wrapper folder. Seems to be the most commong cause of crashes with ENBs

I used to be able to use enbs no problem. The only real thing that has changed since is my hardware, which is decidedly better than it was. I am just out of ideas on why it won't work, because I've basically tried every avenue I can think of already.
Guest MonsterFish Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 From my experience, Hardware is never the issue with installing ENB's. I used to have a pretty crappy computer and ran K ENB which is a pretty heavy ENB and I didn't get a CTD, just a very low framerate. CTDs are usually caused by bad installs. My suggestion would be to remove everything and start from scratch. You can do this by copy-pasting the original ENB files over the ones you have so it highlights which files you need to delete and then delete them (Don't delete the data folder if it has one). Be sure to also delete d3d9.dll since some ENBs tend not to package it. Go through the steps each time one by one and benchmark it each time so you know what the problem is. If d3d9.dll is indeed packaged with the ENB you're using do NOT transfer it. Also, Commong. I can't help but add a g to the end of words ending with 'on'. Like Londong >.>
Sidereel Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 I started going through some of the comments on the enb pages, and people were mentioning that they preferred .279 over the newest enb version because they were having trouble with it. It's not available on the site anymore, but I found a download and used that one instead, installed the enb preset, changed my skyrimprefs, and it works now. Not sure why I have such trouble with the latest version, but I'm happy it works regardless. It looks like most of the enb presets haven't been updated in a while anyways, so it should be good to go.
