World map causes CTD in custom World

I don't recall ever posting for help on here, so if this is the wrong place, I apologize.

I've been working on a mod for a little over a year now.

In a certain area, the game crashes when opening the map. This did not originally happen, and happened sometime after building a castle. So far, all I've been able to do about it is warn people not to open the map in this area and get far away before fast traveling.

The entire castle is initially disabled with an xmarker for the enable parent, and a specific part of the quest causes the castle to appear, but I don't think this would cause issues, as the crashes happen both when the castle is disabled AND enabled. However, the castle IS built from HUNDREDS of static meshes.

The castle is NOT displayed on the map, the map uses the original LOD data from the new world resource that I used to create the world and haven't been able to get Oscape to work with this world space as I did my other mods... But here's that if anyone needs to look at it

http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/52049/?

(I really hope loverslab isn't stuck up about posting nexus links like the nexus is...)

I normally create my own map/LOD with hoddminir LOD tutorial, but for some reason, it's not working on this worldspace. When I generate everything with Oscape, the map in-game is all torn up and looks nothing like the world space, so I've continued using the .LOD and meshes/textures included with the world space resource, but I've been told that the world space has some issues by another modder, though he didn't mention what those issues were - But it's made me assume the Oscape issue is caused by something wrong with the world space instead of Oscape just messing up.

I also don't know much about LOD/Maps. I only follow a tutorial, which doesn't say a lot about what to do or what is wrong if the tutorial doesn't do what it says it will. Here's a link to that if anyone needs it:

Things I've tried:

Not sure if this would "fix" the problem if it IS the LOD/map... But I backed up my terrain/LODSettings folders, deleted terrain from both meshes and textures as well as my world space's .LOD file. Still getting same CTD when tying to open map. It's INSTANT. as soon as I hit "m" on my keyboard, skyrim just closes if I'm within 4 or so cells from the castle.

So would that mean that the LOD/Map is not the issue?

I've also checked navmeshes, seems to be fine.

I've tried completely deleting the castle from the esp in case it was causing it, but the CTD still occurs.

Not really sure what else to try...

This post should go in Skyrim Technical Support.

Not a problem to post a link of a mod from Nexus.

Quick thing: are you sue the "icon" for the place you added is a valid icon? If the actual file is corrupted you get an immediate CDT (It happened to me once.)

It is a quick thing to check in CK, by just changing the icon for the map marker. (Use a vanilla one.)

Do I need to repost there? Or do I ask a mod to move this, or?

And the map marker shows up fine on the compass, and if use the command to show all markers, tmm 1 i think? It shows on the map and I am able to fast travel to it, but if I'm in the general location of the castle and attempt to open map, I get CTD - I will check which marker I'm using and try a different one really quickly though and then edit this message.

EDIT: Type = City

I'm 99% sure I'm also using that on other map markers, but I'm testing it as "nordic dwelling" to eliminate any possibility, as I don't believe any vanilla markers use city -

Fixed it O.O

I've been stuck on this for MONTHS and just been working around it. Thank you VERY much!

But would you happen to know why it's doing that? I have a large city and all 3 gates have map markers ("west gate", "east gate", "south gate") all 3 map marker types are "city" and there's no crashing there, only at this specific one.

The post was already moved (by you or a moderator.)

The causes of a CDT can me many.

The one I posted was one really difficult to find that happened to me a while ago.

If it is not the problem, then try to go around the problem until you will find the cause of it.

1) Is the location of your cell OK? Can you go there with a COC <cell name>?

2) Is the problem happening only on the world map, (that is a very special and isolated object), or you have a CDT also in other cases?

3) Do you have the CDT when you OPEN then map? Or when you click on the location?

Ah, at once you replied, I'll just re-put my edit down here in case you don't re-read above message:

That was EXACTLY what was happening to me.

The type "City" is unused in Skyrim, and has a corrupted (or not existent) SWF object linked to it.

So when you use it, you CDT.

The actual cities in Skyrim have, all of them, a custom icon.

I was wrong... That didn't fix it... It DID, but I've taken to creating new ESPs when it starts taking a very long to save... Once it takes 5 minutes to save, I ESMify the current esp, and make a new one. The test I did where it worked, I forgot to ESPify the masters... and thus, when I ESPify all the ESPs, the CTD is back. However, I have been able to track it down to only needing the specific ESP i built the castle in as ESMified for it to work - However, this also re-adds objects I deleted in older files; mainly the world space ESM, I deleted a lot of trees to build towns, and when my Update01.esp is "ESMified", those trees are again present and sticking through houses, walls, everything. lol

Just to test it, I changed it back to "city" while leaving the esp esmified, and the CTD is still gone - So I guess it wasn't the "city" marker... So I'll go ahead and answer your questions

1. I can walk into the cell freely, I can coc into it, everything.

2) The CTD is ONLY when opening the map. and ONLY when the esp is marked as esp instead of esm.

3) The CTD is when I open the map. If I hit the M key, it doesn't lag or anything, skyrim just closes out. Same result if I hit tab + up to get to map. And it's only near the castle. (all surroundings cells, not just a specific one)
