Ein019 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 So, I have a copy of Skyrim sitting in my steam account that hasn't been played. After browsing the site for a bit , I decided, what the heck; why not get started? I recently uninstalled LOOT since I was done with New Vegas and I'm wondering what steps should I follow from an absolutely clean install of the game to assure that nothing breaks/ yadda yadda yadda. I already know the perils of modding different games and I'm wondering if there's anything special / special steps that should be taken before starting into Skyrim Modding.
Ality Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Well not too much, Except keep a backup data folder and .ini files. Use LOOT to clean your load order and master files. and the Nexus Mod Manager is an amazing tool at keeping mods organized!
Zitanna Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 NMM is nice, but I would suggest using Mod Organizer from the start to keep your game files clean in case something goes wrong. As always, I suggest looking at Gopher's videos on Skyrim, as he touches on almost everything to get you started. Start off with getting Mod Organizer, SKSE, SKYUI, and FNIS. Once you have those working, you can start adding mods/etc. On a side note, as for adult modding, you'll need things like a skeleton (XP32M is recommended), body mods (SOS/Whatever), SexLab, Zaz, and some other things.
Robert_jj Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 For getting startet i recommend NMM. Its easy to use and has all the features you need. As long as you make sure you have all requirements for your mods, everything should work fine. Best thing to start out is definetly to install SKSE and SkyUI, no Skyrim without those two.
malvekiar Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I'm going to second the motion on Mod Organizer. It's better maintained and has a much more complete feature set than NMM by far. Simply in being able to set up profiles with different mods for different gamestyles is a fantastic feature. Add to that the ability to easily integrate other executables like FNIS, TES5Edit, Creation Kit, etc to run directly through the program is awesome. Also makes it much simpler to keep your core game folders clean. One other important point. If you left your steamapps folder in the default directory, move it. For modding purposes, you will have nothing but trouble leaving it in C:\Program Files(x86). Get it out of a location that is owned by Administrator, that should be step 1. Also recommend looking at the INI tweaks and configurations used on S.T.E.P. You don't have to go through the entire process (very very very very time consuming) but it covers a great deal of the essentials in a fairly well documented fashion.
barak43 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 i recommend Mod Organizer too. NMM has the problem that it doesn't always correctly remember what files has been installed with what mod... and so will sometimes leave files behind in the Data folder... creating problems xD MO doesn't put anything at all in the Data folder, so your skyrim will always be clean
DenjiXMakima Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 get this in any case: unoffical Skyrim Patch
barak43 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 get this in any case: unoffical Skyrim Patch that's right. there is a patch for each DLC too. if you have all 3 DLC (dawngard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) take the unofficial legendary patch. one patch for everything ^^,
