Changing the hair on a custom, standalone follower - how?

So, I am trying to alter the hair on Aurea Granius and I'm having difficulties getting her head and hair to show up in the CK.  No matter what I do, all I can get is the default FrankenNord / Quasi-Lydia head to show up...

 

When I try to preview the body for the actor, I get the warning message:

FACEGEN: Could not find (and apply) race morph 'zzzAureaRace' in TRI file 'Actors\Character\Character Assets\FemaleHeadRaces.tri' for geometry FemaleHead.

According to some other posts apparently this means that I have to 1) edit the head in her custom race rather than in the actor, and 2) copy the data from a "morph race" before hitting the preview check box.  per this screenshot on the author's blog, it appears he used ECE's YGNord race as her starting race, so I thought I could copy the morph data from that.  Unfortunately, after getting ECE loaded into CK, I get the same error message as above except now it complains that 'YGNord' race has no morph data.

 

Finally, I tried copying the morph data over from the base Nord race.  Well that gets rid of the error message, but, you guessed it...  helllooooooo FrankenLydia!!! No dice, I still can't see her actual face and hair.  Every other race I tried either produces the warning above that there is no morph data, or just gives me the shit default head.

 

What am I missing here?  How do I get the correct head and hair to show up so I can change the hair??
