myblackpen Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Seems the art of translating russian is a lot harder than it seems to be for the japanese games. Most of the games like ЭТ0 and others like it are very difficult to immerse in due to the terrible english. It's so bad sometimes I can't even tell what they're trying to say through context. Is there a better source for better translated QSP's than I've managed to find?

Loaded it up just to be sure but sure enough.. : You walk slowly around the yard, you go to a meeting a few guys gopnicheskogo species, with pivasom, Semko and caps. Hey lohushka shout you Gopnik. Bob nail looks at you with indifference Birch does not look at you Vitek on driving with your breasts look Do not forget about the debt. But thank you for the suggestion on cursed though, I'll try that out.

They use a lot of criminal slang and profanities, many of which have no direct English counterparts, and translating them is tricky at best. In the example you gave "a few guys gopnicheskogo species, with pivasom, Semko and caps" is something like a few thug-looking guys with beer, sunflower seeds and caps. Basically, this is a very stereotypical image of Russian street bandits called "Gopniks", which are the lowest in the criminal hierarchy. "lohushka" is a female meant to be bullied, mainly to extort some money (male equivalent would be "loh").

Sure, but only around 80 pro cent is fully translated, like in order to get to those thugs you read: "In a side alley, next to the cafe, you can hear the swearing and laughing of some Gopniks." which is custom translated.

You should consider translating some of the Russian games with your dual linguistic skills there!
Snoopy911 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Automatic translation seems quite hard. I tried several forums with google translate and ended up with nearly 50% expletives. One might think ok it's the internet but in many sentences you could easily deduce that the translation was dead wrong.

A bunch of thugs addressing a girl like shes just there to be extorted and used seems a lot more fun than anything I was pulling out of that sentence .
