theskyrimman Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Hi, Ive just finished installing my mods today and have been trying skyrim in between most of them to make sure its all working properly. Yesterday everything was fine but today i noticed i had about 250 plugins and started merging some using tes5edit. I merged similar mods or patches for mods together like my armour mods and the skyrim distance overhaul mod. I went down to about 230 plugins, started a new game in skyrim and everything was good. Then i quit skyrim, went back on a few minutes later and tried to load that same save game but its crashing. I thought it could have been from the merged plugins so i disabled them and re-enabled the individual mods but nothing changed. I tried starting a new game (i use live another life) and that will work, i spawn in the dungeon and then talk to the statue and start my journey again, only everytime i quit and load the save up again it crashes. So i can start a new game, but not load a previous one. Ive sorted my load order with loot, ive run FNIS just in case but im stuck and was wondering if anyone here knew what was going on? I do not know how things goes with Tes5edit checking the saves, but I'm using Wrye bash when merging files, after installing/uninstalling some mods. WB has ability to check and report errors in your saves and to edit your saves so you can see what mod causing errors in the save after being merged. Here are some tips from the author who had same problems as you and what he did and how he used Tes5edit: (If you have the DLC then clean only from the last DLC you have installed. You may optionally clean previous entries in the list ie: Update.esm but do not clean any entry previous to Update.esm like Skyrim.esm or Skyrim.exe I would REALLY recommend that you clean from Update.esm down.)Right click the file, and click "apply filter for cleaning"You might have to grab a snack.Right click again and click "Remove "Identical to Master" records"A big warning message might pop up. Click yes.Right click again and click "Undelete and Disable References"Do this for every mod in that list. When you are done try to close the program. It might ask you to save some stuff. Let it, and close it out. Now, return to LOOT and sort your plugins again. Check to see if there are any error messages remaining. If there are (and there very well could be...) go back into TES5Edit and clean down the list again. Do this until no errors remain.10. Run Skyrim from SKSE and attempt to load your corrupted save. If TES5Edit was succesful in cleaning all the junk out of your save game then it will load up. It might be missing some content, but it's better than losing all those hours right? If this worked, then boosh! You're done! Go kill some Draugrs and make things from wolf skins.If however you go to load the save game and you get a crash to desktop then it's time for some drastic measures. Proceed to step 11 and brace for the worst.11. If you're here, then things are really bad. Errors and bad edits have conspired to create lasting corruptions in your save and there is only one option left, and it's probably gonna be a 50-50. First of all load LOOT again. Check and double check that there aren't any errors. There really shouldn't be, but if there are... this means that you didn't load one of that mods dependencies. Rather than sort through and try to explain the difference between explicit and implicit dependencies or even worse try and tell you how to figure out which dependencies belong to which mod let's just do something much simpler. Longer? Maaaaybe, but simpler. I promise.You need to load TES5Edit, and load every single thing on that list excluding mods that contain BSAs.Skip to step 9, and clean every single entry from Update.esm down. This will take a very long time and you will likely want to kill someone before it is finished, but it must be done. This will ensure that any dependencies were loaded and cleaned. I managed to do this while watching some Netflix in an afternoon. Just a suggestion.12. Go back to step 10. It should have worked by now. If it didn't... commit that character to the character boneyard and go drown your sorrows in some Tamika Vintage 399. Come back drunk as all hell and start a new character. Unless you're underage in which case, why do you have booze?In my case doing all this restored all my saves

The very same save file may fail to load 2 times out of 3 and crash to desktop. I haven't been able to find the cause yet (unfortunately). I would suggest you try the following: 1) Does it *always* crash on load? Try 4 or 5 times. If you manage to load up the save, go into a house with not too much stuff going on and save into a new slot there. In my experience, a heavily modded skyrim tends to crash-on-load more often on large and/or crowded maps. 2) If it always crashes, try to load a different savegame. Once that's loaded up, go to the ESC menu and select "Load" from there, and try to load the savegame from there. Skyrim sometimes has issues loading saves when the engine was not loaded before. Again, if you manage to load up the save in this way, go into a calm location and save into a new slot. 3) If you don't have an older save, start a new game, and then follow the advice in 2). This is really a last resort. If 1) 2) and 3) don't work, then one of two things may have happened: a) Your savegame file is corrupt. In that case, I'm very sorry for you. There are tools to "clean up" savegames, but I have no experience with those. On load, skyrim is attempting to load up or run a mod, and this mod causes your game to insta-crash back to desktop. Skeleton mods, HDT-related stuff and race mods in particular are often the cause for this. If that's the case, then try disabling those mods and load up the game, ignoring the "some used mods are not found blah blah..." message. Hope this helps! Alan

Alan I disabled Skyrim Redone and now I can start a new game, spawn in Breezhome, walk outside into Whiterun city and save my game. Then i can load that game from within skyrim and when i quit and re open skyrim. Only thing now is im crashing when i fast travel. Any ideas? Edit: Also, when i get back to the mod organiser screen, there is a little error triangle down the bottom that says: 11:30:58 [D] E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer\profiles\Default\initweaks.ini saved 11:30:58 [D] E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer\profiles\Default\lockedorder.txt saved 11:32:07 [D] E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Mod Organizer\profiles\Default\initweaks.ini saved 11:32:07 [W] not saving lists during directory update Not sure if this is related, but i thought i would post it.
xiztizen kang Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I used to have that issue too. One work around is to make one save in a small cell (like breezehome or if you use alternate start; the abandoned prison). And whenever you start Skyrim; load that save then load the save or auto save of your current play session. It sounds tedious at first but you will get used to it. I still do that even though I no longer have that problem out of habit.

SSME is not obsolete with this setup even though it is in for debate, SSME is better than skse and safety load, but combined with those 2 it is no problem heaven for me. I had to do this type of build when I was setting up my hdt in order for it to work.

Oh and just in case if you didnt know your skse will need an ini. you can google up skse ini for lazy users and one will come up along that title for nexus, Just add the ini to This Pc,Documents,My Games,Skyrim,SKSE

I have barely played since my last post but for some reason after I installed this: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/51365-0sex-skyrim-sex-sim-other-0s-content-wip/?do=findComment&comment=1289461 And then did a bashed patch it has started crashing on the start up screen. As soon as the little steam box on the bottom right comes up at the main menu. I deleted the mod and removed the bashed patch but it still isn't working. Exact same issue. I don't know why because I haven't changed a single thing beside whats mentioned above. Im not sure if this matter but I keep getting an SKSE plugin folder in my overwrite folder in MO when it crashes, called SafetyLoad.log. Also after it crashes in MO it says in the box below the overwrite part "not saving lists during directory update". Any ideas why?
