Alan47 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Hey guys, I started a new game in Skyrim. I know the bleak falls quest by heart, but this time I forgot to talk to the owner of the riverwood trader before entering the dungeon. I finished the dungeon, got the claw, and my quest pointer is pointing at the owner of the riverwood trader - but he refuses to talk to me about the claw, the dialog option is missing. In my quest journal, there are two open entries for the quest: "Find the original owner of the claw" and "Return the claw". So... after some googling I've learned that this is a known bug. Is there any solution to it? A console command perhaps? The usual solution is "load an older savegame and repeat the quest the right way" - only I have no such save and I did several other dingeons in the meantime Any help would be much appreciated!
Justoutthere Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Have you completed the Bleakfalls Barrow quest or are you trying to return the claw on the way back to Whiterun, there is an indication on the UESP Skyrim wiki that not completeing the main quest if you didn't talk to Lucan first may cause the problem you stated but I have never tried to do it without either talking to Lucan first or completing the Bleakfalls Barrow quest and dropping it off on the way to Hrothgar so I have no personal experience of the veracity of this suggestion.
Erebea Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Did you read Arvel the Swift's journal? It identifies the owner of the claw and should update the quest. Failing that try this in the command console: setstage MS13 60 Or simply just ignore the quest, it only gives you gold and makes you a friend of Lucan and Camilla.
aqqh Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 You should have an option "what happened?" the he talks about thieves and a claw then you got an option of "you mean this claw?" There is no option to return it without hearing that he was robbed first.
Alan47 Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 Hey guys, thanks a lot for the answers, you're awesome, I love this forum I followed your advice. I read the thief's journal, and lo and behold, Lucan suddenly offered me the "Did something happen" dialog option, and the dialog continued just as aqqh stated. I was able to finish the quest without any console command trickery, apperently all I had to do was to read the journal. Thanks!
