Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Since I can't really do much with the modding tools myself (but would of course help if a modder liked the idea enough to decide to help with it), I figured I'd see if anyone liked the idea enough to help. The mod would be largely non-adult, however would have MANY adult aspects, from coarser language and upwards (I mean a drunk guy flopping his dick out in a bar is less acceptable, and more uncommon, than having to hack someone apart when walking along a country road ?) In essence the idea is thus: Add random dialogues to generic NPCs, and sort NPCs based on location/type. The new dialogues would be limited per playthru, as they would (largely) be based on your race/gender/stats/settings. The way I see it working is like this: When you install the mod, or start a new game, you get a popup box where you configure the mod. The configuration would amount to further fleshing out your character in ways that basic character creation does not handle. You in essence go thru a range of categories, and pick the descriptors that describe the character you intend to roleplay, from physical appearance to worldliness to carnal knowledge to how others usually see your character (IE: a threat or not in a fight) just to name a few. You would also get an inventory item to re-open this menu as your character levels up, in addition to it opening automatically each level up to ask you if anything has changed. All of these would have some basic influence on the new dialogue, some more than others. All advantages would have drawbacks to one degree or another. The dialogue would be likely most easily implemented by adding new NPCs to bars/cities and other locations (with further alteration to bandits, etc, as based on your appearance they may choose to not attack, to flee, or to otherwise act in a non 'attack or demand cash then attack' manner.) Random NPCs on the street as well as named NPCs may make relevant comments on the characters stats as well as other relevant options (IE: wearing the main quest reward armor may net you sobbing thanks from a IC merchant, along with a one time freebee/discount) Bandits and other world space unlawfuls would have their behavior heavily overhauled along the way, from loosing their 'stand in the same spot until killed' annoyance factor and instead paroling routes in various numbers, to running away if they view you as too dangerous, to (if possible) attempting to encircle the player and knock the player out for capture/robbery/rape. Idealy, the mod would include ratings (IE: social ratings, expense, how deadly a weapon is, etc) on all/most(or at least some) vanilla equipable items (clothes/armor/jewelry, etc)that would factor into this, along with a pop-up option when equipping mod gear, which would give the player the ability to assign the item stats which the mod could use (I know there are some mods that do this to an extent, but the ones Ive seen require you use a specific mod pack for clothing, and any other clothing causes issues, where this adds support for anything) If someone does choose to assist with this, I'd see it proceeding in several stages. 1- The first stage would be just getting the basic system working, and adding NPCs to bars/inns/taverns/etc and perhaps the bandit edits as well. 2- The second stage would involve adding further NPCs in cities, with perhaps the start of altering vanilla NPCs. Prehaps adding criminal NPCs that will try to rob/rape the player/NPCs in the back alleys of cities at night. 3- The third stage would involve larger edits to the games NPCs as a whole (leaving most vanilla quests, especially the main quest perhaps, alone), using the silent voice method and falling back on good old fashioned text. These would be things similar to the earlier edits, but with bigger effect (IE: editing the dialogue towards your character from major NPCs). Also, a further idea (albeit one I'm unsure if would be too feasible outside of new NPCs, or ones where a faction wide overhaul. IE: bandits, is desirable) would be replace the bethesda style generic dialogue with a text based dialogue using the popup menu boxes, and use that to implement Fallout style dialogue trees (Fallout 1/2 style, not the bethesda RPG-lite dialogue from the third fallout spinoff). So, in general (at least the first stage which is the most likely to get completed) what do people think ? Also the menu style dialogue trees, how doable are they ? Also, would it be possible in any way to add voice acting for NPC responses to such a system, as if things DO manage to progress (I'm not holding my breath, but hopeful) that would further flesh things out.
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Well since someone thanked this, I take it at least someone likes something about the idea (or one of them). Anyone care to respond ?
Iris86 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 i can add npcs and i think i have the general idea of how a faction should be made... still, no idea how to add rape/coercing/robbery options, nor topics... and pretty much only modified text already there... in a mod... so sorry if i can't help at all... this video is a umm, sample of what i can do, modify already existing dialogue, modify character appearances and in the process create new races... create and place npc companions and some weapons and items i made based on other stuff, for example the scythe death uses, i recolored the normal scythe to look bloody & stuff and made it have soul absorb effect, a friend o' mine tested it and said it was fun, like playing castlevania 3 + 64 with propper 3d graphics, i didn't made the castle, the credit for that one goes to sugawara, i just remade the enemies and made it a bit harder in general, didn't wanted the bosses to fall with just one slash because they were fixed to be level 10-15-25-80 PD i did not publish this stuff because i could not get in touch ith the maker of the mod and had no idea if i could upload a re-do of his work, i should thank dewani because she even recorded her beta test and uploaded on her page, to show how nice the modifications i made looked :3
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Interested in helping out ? Even if the changes are textual only, it would be something that'd add immersion to the game, I think. I'd of course try to help out with coding stuff, but from past experience with coding I can say that my actually coding is usually a bad idea.
