Hi guys.

So I got an alternative dragon mesh, hooked it up to a vanilla skeleton and skinned it, and now its arse is turning into a digital void in the CK. Does anyone have any knowledge they could impart to me to get the thing working?

Thanks a lot.

One possibility is that there are not just triangles in the mesh you created.

In some cases CK just crashes, in others has the effect you see on your screenshot.

Ok, nice one. That does give me some things to look at. I had to reduce the polys a fair whack. Could try doing it more carefully. Thanks mate.

Yeah no joy there, unfortunately. Was even more demented looking with higher polys :) Back to the drawing board.

Try a couple of things before.

Use the NIFSkope 2.0 alpha, and remove ALL texture nodes from your NIF.

Then set the shaders of Skyrim (you need the NifSkope 2.0 alpha for this), if it looks OK, then the NIF without textures (no diff, no maps, no cobe, no spot, nothing!) in CK, and then in game.

If it is OK, then start by adding only the diffuse textures (the second slot).

The add only the normals.

And continue until you will find the problem.

Ok nice one. I will do just that after my tea. Thanks a lot. Gent.

Hey so I've been coming back to this mesh intermittently and have tried lots of different things but have always had the same problem with every attempt, which is that the tail blows up when I bring it into CK. I'm attaching the .nif if any charitable soul wants to take a look at it.

At a first look, it looks ok in NIFSkope.

CK may have some problems with the bones that are not really standard.

You should try it in game to see if the tail is not showing up correctly.

I did not try your mesh in CK. Only in NIFSkope.

Yeah unfortunately the CK and the game are showing the same warped out butt :/ I'll keep trying it when I have the patience to because it's a nice mesh but there's something I don't understand going on with the rear of it. Cheers mate.

What tool do you use to edit the mesh?

If it is blender I can try to check it in the 3D editor. If it is 3D Studio, then I can try too, but I need to import it in Blender, so I am not sure if I can really provide help.

I use 3ds max mate. Ah don't put yourself out too much unless you also want a fancy dragon model haha :) You should be able to pull the nif into blender alright if you want to, but it's no stress.

Screenshot attached of in-game dragon right now with his tail in the foreground. I had to manoeuvre quite a bit to get a clear shot.
