Help. Missing NPC in Dawnguard quest "Prophet".

So this character i play is generally used for modeling, but I've decided to start doing some quests on her because she is my only high level mage character (level 54 currently). But during her old modeling career I wanted to do a shoot with Serana before i had actually done the dawnguard quest to find her. So not knowing the ramifications of doing this i had spawned (not summoned) Serana to me using player.placeatme. What I thought was weird is when i spawned her she had armor and the elder scroll still.

Storyline spoiler: Look to the TL:DR for the real question with no story details.

Now since she has left her modeling career to become and adventurer. I went to do the Dawnguard questline from the Dawnguard side this time (my last character I did it from the vampire side) and i got Serana and its all great took her home, went back to Isran, recruited the 2 people he set me out to get and then he wanted me to talk to Serana whom of which traveled to the castle to speak with me personally. I followed Isran to the room where Serana is and she is not there. I saved the game and spawned in a Serana with player.placeatme to try to complete the quest and I could go through the dialogue with her but I wouldn't get credit towards quest progression. So I loaded the save i created before i spawned her in and here I am. I cant proceed until she is there to talk to.

TL:DR Serana is not where she is suppose to be and I'm not too sure why I'm just taking a guess and saying it was because i spawned a copy. I tried cleaning the save with a program but that doesn't seem to solve it. I did "save funclist1" command to find her refid but I don't know what to do now. I've looked on other forums and people say to use "prid <refid)" then "moveto player" but it keeps saying the refid I used doesnt exist.

Well, if you spawned a new instance of Serana for modelling, then it shouldn't have interfered with the 'true' Serana. This seems to be backed up by the fact you made it this far into the Dawnguard quest-line, where Serana has already shown up at least once.

If the quest marker wants you to speak to her and is pointing at empty space, then she probably is there, she's just disabled for some reason, and you may be able to fix that with the console.

  1. Figure out the ID of the quest you're on (easily done by checking UESP)
  2. Type sqv questID in the console, replacing questID with the actual ID you got in step 1
  3. In the displayed list, find Serana's alias ID (use PageUp and PageDown to navigate it)
  4. Type prid seranaID
  5. Type enable
  6. If nothing shows up in step 5, try moveto player

At this point, something should show up next to you, even if it's Serana's mysteriously dead body. At that point you can try to revive her with the usual resurrect command and so on.

You my friend, are jesus. I did what you said but after i did "moveto player" she still didnt show up but the quest arrow moved to where she was, Since she was targeted i tried disabling and enabling and it didnt make her show up so then i did what you said and revived her and she popped up. She seemed really inviting though ;)

I guess they don't let you take luggage in the flight back from the land of the dead. :P

Quite curious how she died in the first place, seeing as she's an essential NPC.

Yeh good point. Also, this is literally driving me insane right but because the whole time i spend tabbed out i have a follower saything things non stop. "im right behind you" "ive got your back" every 5 seconds. Any mods that stop this completely?

I've never heard of that bug before, and I'm pretty sure Skyrim automatically pauses if you alt-tab or the game window loses focus. Unless you have a mod to changes that.

Sadly im having this same problem now with a mod follower, Shyvana. Cant find her refid, i did the "save funclist 1" and found it that way but its not working :l

It sounds like you may have a mod that isn't playing nice and deleting your followers for some weird reason. That would explain why Serana vanished despite it not being possible under normal circumstances.
