Freezing issue with archery

Every time I draw my bow, my character freezes. I'm playing on a laptop, using the arrow keys to move the character (run, walk, strafe), and the mouse pad, apparently by default, controls the aim. When I use a melee weapon, or mod-introduced throwing weapon such as a knife, everything's fine. However, after drawing my bow back (had this with, and without, mods, and with 2 different bows), the mouse pad doesn't work. I have to use an arrow key to move, THEN fire. Of course, this totally ruins my aim and makes archery completely useless as an effective fighting style. I can get the first shot in fine, as long as the target hasn't seen me and isn't moving. A moving target is practically impossible to hit because you have to aim, move, re-aim, track, fire. That extra 'move, re-aim' kills me. Literally. If a target is in the mid-distance and starts running at me from any angle...uphill, downhill, zigzagging, I'll barely get 2 shots off before they're in my face. And if the first sniper shot doesn't hit home, my advantage is totally lost.

I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game, to no effect, so it's definitely not a mod issue. I get much more enjoyment out of playing a ranged character so I'm desperate for help!

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried plugging in a simple USB mouse and seeing if it works correctly with that? It sounds a bit like the mouse pad is the culprit. Many laptops with mouse pads come with their own 'clever' little drivers and control panel applications that allow for the use of gestures, assigning different areas of the pad for scrolling, assigning how to control a (missing) middle button, etc. Often they are also pressure sensitive so you can tap or push them to simulate a button click&hold. It sounds like you have an issue like that, as if the mouse button is stuck in the down position after you draw. If it all works fine with a regular mouse, then I'd look around the control panel to see if you can find any config tool for the mouse pad, and disable the assistant features on it, especially anything that refers to gestures and 'sticky buttons' or something like that.
