Making a custom 'ore vein' and override animations?

Hey all!

 

I am back to modding and am trying to figure out a few things that I'd like to implement into the mod I am working on.

Firstly, is it possible to make a 'custom ore vein', for example; change it to a cluster of mushrooms and have it play a gathering materials animation as opposed to swinging a pickaxe?

Second question was how I can bind say an animation to a spell effect or piece of equipment, such as; spell effect gets added to player, player now uses the crawl animation instead of walking/standing up until the spell effect is removed.
