Guest Vendayn Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Well, I'll just shamelessly put this here. Hopefully its okay, its not like I'm a spambot as I've been here for years. So...yeah xD One of my friends suggested I try this and it helped him get back to Youtubing videos and helped him with his college work. Guess it doesn't hurt. For a long time I've been unable to really do good quality youtube videos. Rendering is slow and crashes. So pretty much can't do Youtube on my PC. And when trying to write my book and having things crash, is...well...doesn't make writing fun. Having to re-do an hour of work is very...well pretty much stops me writing. And saving every 10 minutes or whatever amount of time, loses my concentration on writing. I can't even run vanilla Skyrim, can't do videos of Rome 2 or even play barely any modern game. Can't do nature videos as rendering is slow as heck. Reinstalling with a new hard drive does no good, because my power supply is probably bad along with whatever else. My computter is 5+ years old, and its not even high end parts...and I can't afford a new PC. I'm on a government disability, and if I got a job I'd lose my disability and all my health benefits. But, my income is SUPER low, and really mostly worth it just for the health benefits (and that is pretty limited as it is, so its mostly for a medication really). Feel free to share this if you want (or not). Up to you. Or help out if you can or whatever...either way. Thanks everyone gofund.me/smg2jxf7 Like I said, hope its okay here. Its pretty shameful and I kind of feel bad doing this to be honest. But I can't even barely use my PC as it is And can't even closely afford a new one.
Rebel Girl Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Well, if you want a functional computer and can build your own you could ask for decent but excess parts too. Shipping a power working supply is a lot cheaper than buying one and if anyone is going to have extra parts they don't need it will be people here. I'm disabled too and had a lot of friends who were even before it happened to me so I understand how much the financial situation can suck. Hang in there. *offers hug*
Guest Vendayn Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Thanks Actually, I didn't really think of asking. I don't really personally know anyone in real life who has excess parts though. One of my good friends has a nice modern PC, but his income is rather limited too and my family aren't really well off. Right now my PC is... Geforce GTX 660 2gb (but the video ram or power supply is bad or both) 600 wat power supply (kind of a low quality one) i5 660 CPU (this is the worst I have) and then windows 7 64bit, just a regular hard drive and 8 gig ddr 3 ram that is like 5 years old now. Everything is 5+ years old except my GPU. Its actually hard in the US when you are disabled. They give you a tiny amount of income (can't afford california rent at all, in the cheapest place)...and the medical part isn't that great either but its something. I got lucky that it pays for my medication though, that stuff is expensive lol.
Guest Vendayn Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Oh, I guess I was just told its against the rules to raise funds here. Sorry about that, I read the community rules and didn't see it. But maybe I missed it. (edit:To add, I figured this probably actually be the best place as any. I don't want to spam my facebook friends over and over. And I've been here for years. And I don't want to go to a bunch of random sites spamming the link that I don't go to lol. Kind of promotes that, but guess thats most kickstarter kind of things.)
Buddy Christ Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I have quite some hardware in my shelves (all working stuff after upgrading my system), it might not be "top of the art", but at least I think it is decent. For example, you could PM me with your graphics cards specs, I check my storage and if it is better, I will tell you. You PM me a postal adress and I will send it. I will pay the postage, no worries there. That way you could go from "crappy" to "decent", without violating forum rules
Rebel Girl Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I'm in the US too. That an understandable forum policy. Probably should PM me and maybe we can look at your specs some more if that's the case.
Aurora95 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Someone wanna send me a nice laptop? O:) Joking! kinda... Nice to see people being generous online tho I wish I could help the cause
Guest Vendayn Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I sent you two (Rebel Girl and Gorn) a pm with specs. Though I did post a reply here too. This is probably a lot better way than shamefully doing a fundme
Rebel Girl Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Someone wanna send me a nice laptop? O:) Joking! kinda... Nice to see people being generous online tho I wish I could help the cause Sorry, I only give away shitty laptops and you have to be in school and computerless. Also I'm fresh out.
Guest Vendayn Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 So I tested the PSU and GPU. I put in the backup PSU and it was still doing it. Which means its definitely a graphics card issue and not a power supply issue. But...I put in the 6600GT and it still caused issues. But I couldn't really test it properly since its SUPER old. So maybe its broken too, its just been collecting dust for years. Put my graphics card in dads PC. But the graphics card in dads PC was still causing issues for him. So it is definitely not my hardware or virus or anything like that. Its probably my GPU. I can't really test the PSU with a really old crappy 6600 GT that doesn't even run any of my games lol. And if replacing the PSU with the backup one still causes issues with my GTX 660...thats probably the reason. Unless BOTH are messed up. But I have no way to properly test the PSU. On the bright side, I know its at the very least, the GPU Dad started getting artifacts and glitches when he put the GPU under stress. My dad thought its also possible to be the CPU, but that doesn't seem as likely to me. And dad's hardware is fine. He doesn't play games or anything anyway. But as soon as he put in my GPU I use, he started experiencing the same symptoms I have. For now though, the GPU is back in my PC. It works, just not under heavy load. (edit: On the bright side, next month when I get my monthly income...I "might" be able to use some of that money for a 970 GTX off amazon. But its not for sure yet, I'd have to wait and see till next month.)
ZaZ Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Performance Issues are maybe caused by an Overheating GPU mostly , try Applying some thermal paste , cause it may have dried out and could possibly be overheating , check the temps of the gpu when under stress Artifacts are a sign that the card is dying, its life can be extended by using the oven bake or poor options like Aluminium foil with a hair drier ( I shit you not it works) I had similar case and fixed it using the latter , but still it can die out any moment. Cheers GTX 660 is Crappy ? Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 512 mb (hair dried ^^ ), 3GB DDR2
Guest Vendayn Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 My GPU had same exact symptoms in my dad's PC as mine and his PC is actually in a cooler more ventilated room. And also, the GPU when heavy stressed only went to 56 degrees (that is what my dad told me). But when it was under heavy stress, it crashed the PC and tons of artifacts showed up. And, well I told rebel girl. Guess I forgot to post it here. Literally, no joke. Skyrim being a perfect example. No mods, brand new install of Skyrim. GTX 260 896 MB (my old graphics card) got 20-30 FPS in Skyrim with only DLC and HD textures that bethesda came out with...horrible FPS. No mods at all, just what the game came with. I upgraded to a GTX 660 2GB (my current graphics card). I get 20-30 FPS in skyrim, with only DLC and HD textures that bethesda came out with. No joke, I literally saw maybe 2-3 FPS increase at the very most from my old GTX 260. None of my other games saw any performance increase at all, except maybe 1 or 2 FPS...barely any. So maybe my gtx 660 was always bad and I never realized it. To add to that, and its hilarious. heavy modded skyrim 20-30 FPS. No modded skyrim (complete fresh install) and only the base game with dlc+hd textures (no enb or anything, just ugly skyrim lighting)...20-30 FPS. Literally thats all I can play on Skyrim. Brand new hard drive, complete new OS install and same skyrim FPS as my gtx 260 had xD So now I just use whatever mods in Skyrim because the FPS literally never changes unless I turn on SSAO+DOF in ENB and so I leave those off. My GPU was probably always faulty.
