[Help] Longer Elf Ears

Okay, I started playing around with 3dMax for the first time, along with the NifSkope editor thingy and I was able to port over a pair of night elf ears from oblivion from the XCE race compilation mod (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called). It's my first time doing something like this and I think they came out really great, I just need help being able to change the color of the ears like with the Kaleen race where the ears change with the skin color.

I have no problem attaching it to a new race, that part is easy, and once the ears are done I will upload the new race to loverslab. I was thinking of adding it to the nexus when it was done, but I've heard that there are a lot of lore strict people there and they don't like ported stuff either. I unfortunately do not know how to make my own custom textures and meshes though, oh well I guess...

Also once these ears are done I'll start working on porting blood elf ears XD

I've posted the ported ears so if someone wants to help me with them that would be great, and there's also a pic of the race that I'm working on.

Please and Thank You

Holy crap very nice. Hmm I'll take a look at it and see if its possible to find a way to change the colors. The biggest problem with Skyrim's CK is it doesn't break down the face mesh into pieces, like Oblivion CK. Typically though I think you need some kind of flesh neutral color that can have tints applied to it.

As for a question I have. How did you attach it to the character in game? IS there an ear slot? Omfg..if there is I'm going to go ape shit :D (starts rummaging through all his oblivion mods). I remember reading somewhere there was like extra slots outside what most of the game uses...but hmm. This gives me some ideas for a work around the stupid "race morph" crap in the CK...

Edit:

Okay I just did a quick recolor of the ear texture, by mimicing the same color as the texture of the default face. Going to see if tints will work on this..though they should.

In case you want to try:

Alright I tried to make this as a misc head part, and assign it to a race...but not working. Tried to drag and drop it into the race...under the face data tab. Hmmm...I'll keep fooling with this.

Hopefully this doesn't require a tri file along with it. I'll try to apply it to a custom race.

Edit:

Sorry guess all you needed was directions on how to apply the tint to the ears lol. You should be able to either right click on the texture you're trying to add tints to and either add a new one, or grab existing tints. It should be the same way you add new tints to the lips, skin, brow, cheeks, etc. I had to do that with hair for my custom races in order to gain colors like the extended colors does (tried the patch file he made, but it caused my game to crash lol).

If you go and try to post your file up on the nexus, they will expect you got proper authorization to port over the races. You could try without doing that, but make sure you credit the original authors.

For those who want to attach their own custom ears (or ported) I will be posting a tutorial sometime today, it shouldn't take me too long... Oh and thank you for your help Silvist, later I'll try what you suggested to see if it works with mine...

Awesome stuff AzureMouse..I'll have to try this out asap. Thanks again!

Edit:

Alright I got the ears to work with my custom race~ Great Tutorial! Now how to do a tint...I almost wonder if you have to make a mask for it. Cause under tinting is mask type..lets you choose neck, cheek, lips, and so forth. Hmm.

Here is the Tutorial' date=' it took me longer than I thought to complete it, since I had to go back over what I did exactly. If you have problems with the Tutorial just let me know and I'll do my best to correct it.

Amazing you really give me a huge contribute by make this tutorial for making my own Elf Race! Thanks a lot buddy i'll make sure your name will be in credit when i promoted it.

But i don't think i will launch it in Nexus, that place is not like before after they sign ACTA.

No, you would have to manually do that to every single race in the CK. I'm sure someone could perhaps make a mod to do a replacer. Right now were trying to figure out still how to add tints to it. The file Azuremouse attached was just if you wanted to try it in the CK. Azure plans to make some custom races with new ears :D

K I sorta figured it out...except the base color I have isn't good enough. So under the head part ear that you made.. there is a check box that says "use solid tint". If you click it..it'll mimic the same tint as the skin tone. Not sure how to create a separate one specifically for the ears.

Any updates in this? ^_^ It would be awesome if the ears wiggled when she ran like Belfs do.

Also uploading stuff to the Nexus is fine. Theres a lot of lore-breaking stuff uploaded. You just have to ignore/report all the abusive haters (which thankfully seem to be few).

Oh and hi! :)

Okay, I've done what you suggested Silvest (checking the use solid tint box) and the ears now change with the skin color. Though I noticed that the ears were still lighter then the skin so I changed the Texture Set that I was using for the ears to use the hands_1.dds as the Diffuse (while still using NE.Ear_n.dds as the normal/gloss) and now the ears match the skin. Now I check to see if it works in game and if it does I'll be posting the race on a new thread. So thank you very much for your help :D

To Fox Maiden: I would also love animated ears :D unfortunately I have no experience will doing that sort of thing. I know you would have to do something with the skeleton mesh to get something to move...
