Best way to add mods to a game in progress

Hey folks,

Many thanks for all the support I have recieved in getting mods up and running through this forum!

Are there any pointers or tips on the best way to add a mod without causing CTD or other problems in my game?

For example, last night, I was running a game with a number of LL mods, including Sexlab, Defeat, Aroused, Seeing Yellow, SOS, UNPBB, Zaz animation, and Apropos.  Everything was working fine.

I thought it wouldn't be a big deal to add SexLabMatchMaker.  So I quit out of my game, installed that using Mod Organizer, re-ordered the mods using the sort button, and generated a new FNIS patch.  I made sure to de-select my old FNIS patch and select the new one.

However when I tried to load the game to CTDed.  I was a little surprised because I thought SexLabMatchMaker would be unlikely to conflict with anything.

So, I went back to mod organizer, de selected SexLabMatchMaker, deselected the new FNIS patch, and re selected my old FNIS patch.  I loaded up the game again and everything seemed to go fine, although I was getting some incorrect animations which appeared to be fixed when I reinstalled Zaz in-game.  Since then the game seems to be stable and playable again.

In general, are there any tips or right ways to add mods to a game in progress? For example, if I wanted to add Devious Devices and DD Integration at some stage to my current game, would there be a correct way to do it to maximize stability?

Also, are there any recommended utilities that could be of use to repair or stabilize a certain save file if in the future I accidentally destabilize it?

Thanks for your thoughts!

By the way, Wraith, I clicked on the link in your sig.  Would I be able to apply your mod to a game in progress already using some LL mods, or would it break the game?

Thanks!
