New Game Disaster

Hey all,

Pardon any frustration I may throw out in this post. I've been rebuilding my Skyrim since 9 AM EST and have gotten to the point of giving up. This all started yesterday when I discovered a really neat mod called The Way of the Dovahkiin - Ultimate Deadly Encounters aka Sands of Time. For some reason it just made my game CTD, no matter what I did. I was so in love with the mod and its concept that I decided this morning to nuke Skyrim and start all over and rebuild based off of Sands of Time (SoT). Got a different ENB (Grim and Somber) and got all the mods I wanted off of Nexus into Mod Organizer. After every 6 or so mods I installed I went into the game and made sure everything was running smoothly, which it was. Even SoT I think. Then I installed Requiem. Oh Requiem.... apparently it was updated recently to include a java patcher. Got that squared away but now all the patches off of the Requiem patch page that I need for other mods to work with Requiem apparently break my game. I get to where the main menu should be but I get no text, just the Dragon symbol.

I got rid of them, and that fixed the issue. Then after starting from Live Another Life, I would get to the point where I would be able to choose my character's path, I would get to the location, but then a couple seconds later the game would crash. Now after disabling a couple mods that I believe are the trouble makers, (and re-running the Requiem Reproccer) I find myself crashing soon after creating my character, when all the mods are attempting to start.

Another issue is when the game crashes, it often doesn't actually close entirely. Under Processes in Task Manager I found four TESV.exe's running. It hasn't happened for me in the past, it just now happens apparently.

Here is my load order. I use LOOT.

Additionally, I am going to follow these steps shown here right now to see if it helps. I don't think it could be the ENB but I just want to be sure.

If need be I can attach Papyrus logs.

AMD Phenom x4 965 black edition

Windows 7 x64

Any help you guys can give me would be utterly fantastic.

Hey. :)

First thing I see is that your Requiem.esp is way too high in your load order. Don't let LOOT sort Requiem and it's patches on it's own. It needs to be at the bottom, followed by it's patches and the Requiem For the Indifferent esp. Also, Requiem for the Indifferent should be at the BOTTOM. Nothing goes below the patcher esp, not even Live Another Life.

The best thing to do is to let LOOT sort your other stuff, then manually sort Requiem and it's esps. Also, about the patches, I'm assuming you went to Patch Central? All of those patches are for 1.7, not 1.8. They will stuff it up, as you saw. There are a few patches floating around from other authors, but the main patch page hasn't been updated for ages. :(

ALL OTHER ESPs

Requiem.esp

Requiem - HearthFires.esp
Requiem - Immersive Armors.esp
Requiem - Immersive Weapons.esp

Requiem - Guard Dialogue Overhaul Patch.esp
Requiem - Resources.esp  ß- Get rid of it. It’s for 1.7
Requiem - Immersive Armors Battlemage Gear.esp
Requiem - Immersive Armors - Addon.esp
Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp

Requiem for the Indifferent.esp

I'm not sure about some of your patches, but if they came from Patch Central, ditch them and look for patches from other mod authors.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I had a feeling Requiem shouldn't be that high but I know jack about load order. Thanks for the tips, I did what you suggested.

So much for Patch Central being Central... alright it'll just take some digging I suppose.

I found the source of the crashing, it was Northern Encounters. I don't know why I downloaded it in the first place because everyone seems to be having the same problem. Beating myself over the head for that one... :D

Thanks again!

No worries!

LOOT is a very good tool, but for mods like Requiem it's more than useless.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened to the mod author who maintained Patch Central, but he vanished right after Requiem moved to 1.8. It makes it very hard to get everything you need to actually play Requiem as intended. I still don't have a patch for Falskaar.

Oh, well, don't feel bad. I do that too sometimes - download a problem mod and think it might be okay for my setup. Sometimes I have no issues with it, and sometimes it flips out. I have a problem child in my load order right now that's causing some serious Skyrim wackiness.  :dodgy:

See I was looking for new overhauls to try out. I had Skyre originally but it was just a pain after a while and when I heard about T3nd0s' new overhaul I was going to try it out but I read about the installation process and I just didn't want to go through that, especially with Mod Organizer. Installing 1.8 Requiem is a bear in itself after staring at the screen for eight hours.

Well at least I'm not alone then! I have this problem where I'd crash, try loading back into that save, get another CTD. But if I load to a previous save (mostly an interior) it'll work, then loading back into the current save will work too. Wooo Skyrim modding :D

Speaking of Requiem patches, I found these 2 today:

NRM Wyrmstooth - Requiem Patch

NRM Falskaar - Requiem Patch

Supposed to work for Requiem 1.8.2, though I haven't tested them out myself. There's a couple more 1.8+ patches out there, just have to search them out individually.

I actually think Skyre and Perkus are massive pains in the ass to install. haha. Way worse than Requiem. I tried SkyRe and didn't really like it. I haven't even tried Perkus. Requiem 1.8 was a bit harder because of the patcher and all that jazz. I hate working with Java, so trying to get that program to work with the patcher tested my patience.

Hahaha! Totally sound like me. It's a game of "will it load" when I start up Skyrim.  Better Vampires has started doing the silly dance on me here lately. Feeding and ending up 2 miles from where my character actually fed. The other day my poor PC got launched in the air when he was shield bashed by a Whiterun Guard. Immersive Camera and Realistic Force insanity. He didn't die though, because he's a vampire and can take the fall damage, but the song Rocket Man came into my head when it happened.

Useful tip: If you are running MO (and you should!), you can lock any esp you want in their place. This will prevent BOSS, LOOT and possibly their future derivations from resorting the esp. Very useful, especially if you have mods that you don't actually want sorted.
