SummGai Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 So I just downloaded Skyrim and its set up and everything. So how do I open up the data files and up my mods into the game? Â ok im assuming you are running steam, so go to your skyrim folder and a data folder should be in there, from there you just drag and drop mods into the folder, if you wanna make things easier use programs like NMM (nexus mod manager) or wrye bash to help organize and automatically sort out your mods into the right folders.
gray2p Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Well OK, but don't I have to sort out the mods into the place I need them to be? So how do I open up the data file after I click on it in from the game. So I can get to the folders the mods need to go in?
SummGai Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Well OK' date=' but don't I have to sort out the mods into the place I need them to be? [/quote']  well see here, the skyrim main folder will have a data folder inside, this is where you will put your mods, by manually installing it you will get a zip file, extract that into its own folder and say if you were extracting an armour mod, inside would be another data folder or several folders most likely 2 being named as "meshes" and "textures" anything inside the extracted file will go directly into the data folder in the skyrim main folder, don't put the original zip file into the data folder. Just drag and drop no sorting out of anything, if there is a .esp file that means that it is a non-replacing item (an item on its own) if there isn't then it would replace a vanilla ingame item. If you get a folder called "strings" that also just gets plopped into the data folder in the skyrim main folder.  If you are still confused try following these pictures  Step 1   Step 2   Step 3   Step 4   Step 5   Step 6  Â
gray2p Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 alright will I was able to get the files extracted (I think) and I got to the skyrim data folder. But all my extractions are unzipped zip files. Do I put them into the texture folder from the extraction. Then drag and drop?

gray2p Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 I don't know how post a picture of my screen.
SummGai Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 ok so all your files are unzipped which is good just drag and drop the files like shown in the pictures i posted, when you hit the meshes and textures folder under your extracted folder than all you have to do is just drag and drop all that was inside the extracted folder into the data folder in the skyrim directory, if there is a data folder inside the extracted folder, then you take what was inside the extracted data folder and put it into the main data folder in the skyrim directory
gray2p Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 So basically what you are telling me is to put everything into the Skyrim data file and everything should be fine. Right?
SummGai Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 yup, you dont have to open up the meshes/texture folders in your extracted file all you have to do is just drag and drop those files into the skyrim main and it should be good to go
