CTD upon closing Skyrim and loading my save

hello everyone,

 

quite an odd bug..

 

if i start a new game, I play for without problems,

I can die, load a quicksave, load an autosave, load my previous save. Everything is fine.

 

BUT

 

once I close Skyrim, I get CTDs on all my saves...

I think it's because i'm using "perkus maximus" because i never had this kind of bugs until I installed it...

If you've got it, the havok object can cause problems for ctd on closing (I didn't see it in your load order though). It doesn't do it for everyone and isn't harmful but the bf had it and he hated it. Went away when he got rid of the havok object and injected havok into the nif files. (links for that can of worms in my sig :lol:  )

 

CTD on saves (that are working fine otherwise; ie starting a new game and loading that save, or loading up qasmoke from the menu screen and then loading a save) are usually from too many scripts running at save load and -I think- the scripts get jumbled causing a false issue, therefore loading up a new game causes them to right themselves again. Most people live with that too by just creating a save that's always brand new and loading up from that (before all the scripts are able to complete initializing) or just loading a save from QaSmoke. You could try using Sexlab Aroused Redux and see if that helps. I know running DSR, Enhanced blood, immersive patrols gave me ctds on load, (They gave me ctd's when I ran into a giant battle too  :lol: )

Hi, I have the same problem as op. Loading a save game CTDs my game 9 out of 10 times, unless I load a newly created character/ load a save in an interior environment where i am alone 1st.

 

Thing is, I used to run even more script heavy mods with my old rig, and never really got this problem.

Hi, I have the same problem as op. Loading a save game CTDs my game 9 out of 10 times, unless I load a newly created character/ load a save in an interior environment where i am alone 1st.

 

Thing is, I used to run even more script heavy mods with my old rig, and never really got this problem.

Do you run savegame script cleaner on your old saves? Do you run Sheesons memory patch for skse? Are your memory blocks set correctly? If all of these are yes, and you really can't go without any specific script heavy mod, it's just something that you live with. We really are doing things to the game it was never meant to do. There's some craziness involved and for some people, depending on mod/texture/memory/script management one of those sacrifices is to load from a base save game or qasmoke from the main menu. I was doing it for a time before I decided I really could live without Enhanced blood textures and 3DNPC's due to my ancient rig. It's all about finding that happy medium for your rig when you make sure you're doing everything else right. (As for your papyrus log, I don't know. That requires more technical knowledge than I have)

What do you mean by setting memory blocks? Could you elaborate on that?

 

As of now, I would uninstall the mod causing the CTD. The problem is that I do not know which mod is causing it.....

 

Is there perhaps another thread where this issue has been discussed an resolved?

The memory blocks is just making sure you're running the memory patch correctly. Memory blocks log It's just a utility to make sure you're getting the most you can out of the memory patch. Most people only need to set it to the 512, you know the whole thing already lol. This was used mostly to ensure that it was even running during the early stages of the patch.

First thing you'd do is uninstall one by one until you find the one that doesn't cause you to crash save-load. It's a bit of a pain though because you have to run savegame script cleaner on that save. (Load it, resave it, run script clean, then reload it to see if it worked) And then if you're running devious devices, those get erased by the script cleaner because they're not always hooked (or something like that) So you end up creating problems where there weren't any and false issues.. 

 

All in all, there isn't really a solution to this except for 'Don't run scripted mods in your game that weren't originally with the vanilla game', or 'run limited scripted mods in your game so the scripts don't get confused on save-load and create a false issue' That's all that really happens, scripts load out of order and make you think you have a problem when it's just programming confusion. That's why when you load up from a new game, it works just fine, because the scripts right themselves when they're allowed to start fresh like that.

Ah you mean that, yea i checked the log. Got to about 230 right before the crash. So no, not me running out of memory I think.

 

I think i will reinstall skyrim after this playthrough and slowly find the culprit. Maybe use MO instead of NMM this time.

 

However, a few more tests seem to indicate that the CTDs happen when i try to load in a place with NPCs, Is that possibly caused by a script error?

If you've got at least 512 for your blocks showing up then no it's not a memory crash, if yours is still saying 256, then it might be a memory crash, it's just crashing before it can log it. (Thought I'd cover that, you didn't say)

 

Definitely make the switch to MO if you do. Your skyrim folder is so much cleaner. All mine has in it now is stuff for sweetFX, enboost and creation kit. I had a really hard time running both 3dnpc's and interesting npc's. But for me, that was crashes any time I tried to go into a place that had lots of added npc's, my computer couldn't handle it. I don't see any of the mods that would add a whole bunch of scripts to npc's, so the only thing really could be a combination of extremely high res textures and your scripts on load as long as your saves are devoid of any random, orphaned scripts. Depending on your npc replacers, you could be causing lag during load, maybe. If you're over 200 esp's, you could also try using that TES5edit merge script on some of your armor mods. (I've got all of nsk13's armor mods, anano's, and the sos revealing armors merged, if I didn't, I'd have over 300 instead of 201 esp's... >.<) That might help? 

 

Thing is, if you can load a save reliably from a new save and run around for a few hours doing stuff, there isn't anything technically wrong with the save. So, it's just trying to find a happy medium of what you want and the limitations of the game mechanics and your computer to handle it all.
