Body Mesh Editing

First off I am a big fan of many of the modders who frequent here. I figure this is the best place to direct my question.

 

I am wanting to edit a body mesh to make a Dwarf (Tolkien lore style).

I want to make the midsection thicker and shoulders a bit wider also. So If I edit the body mesh would I also have to make any modifications to the skeleton? I can make my custom race a little shorter using settings in the CK but I cant quite get enough weight with the slider to give it the look it needs.
