Japanese/Oriental-esque ECE Character help

I really want to be able to make a Japanese or Oriental-esque character but I'm having a bit of trouble with ECE.

 

For some reason, it won't even let me see half of the icons for the editor, so I'm pretty much taking shots in the dark as to what I'm editting and how far I'm actually editing.

 

Any advice or currently made characters that you could show me just for a bit of reference?
