I've been playing Skyrim with a Grim and Somber preset for over a year now with Enhanced Lights and FX version 0.4.1 (which I know is an older version since ELFX is now on 2.0) Anyway everything was fine all this time until today.

Last time I played my character I traveled during daylight hours from roughly Morthal to the Pale and the sunrays looked just fine. I saved my character in the Dawnstar tavern last night and turned the game off.

Today when I loaded that save and stepped outside it was still daylight but as I traveled away from Dawnstar I began to notice the sunrays were beginning to look very strange.

They look like this.

I thought maybe it was just a strange effect as sometimes snow/overcast clouds can cause a darker blue appearance to snow. So I hit shift+F12 to turn the ENB off and discovered the following.

Directly above me and persistently following me around is a large block of missing sky textures. Its not just in the sky above Dawnstar. I mapped to Whiterun and it followed me there.

I uninstalled ELFX to see if it was causing the issue and loaded the game again and the issue is still there. if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. The only thing I did between last night and today was install a armor mod. Which I also uninstalled when I noticed this issue on the odd chance it was causing this. That did not solve it either.

The only thing I have narrowed it down to is the sun itself. I loaded a save when it was just starting to get daylight out. the strange missing texture square in the sky was over to the east. I waited a few in game hours to place the time around noon and the square was now overhead. So its following the sun or it is caused by the sun.

I am using a GeForce GTX 660ti card. its only a little over a year old. Could it be dying? :(

The only thing I can think of that would cause this is a change in GPU drivers or settings.  Do you have an automatic update set for your nVidia drivers?  If you're unsure, I would try a complete uninstall/clean of your current drivers, then a reinstall of the newest drivers.  If that doesn't solve it, then maybe an older driver version may work.  I'm just grasping at straws here, since every type of ENB or lighting enhancement I've tried to install lately has either not worked or just caused more issues than I wanted.  Give your GPU drivers a glance and see if a fresh install of them solves anything.  Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind.

I think I may have solved the issue. I'm not sure what could have caused this but I think ELFX is to blame. Uninstalled or installed the issue was there but I was using an older version.

I installed 2.0 ELFX and the issue has gone away. The textures are back the way they should be. So fingers crossed, I hope its resolved. The sun textures were correct as I traveled from Dawnstar to a nearby crypt and I guess I'll see how they look when I exit the place later. I will say 2.0 seems to have made interiors darker then the version I was running but if its something I have to live with, so be it.

The latest ELFX has an optional mod file installed that makes the interiors darker.  I use ELFX and I just removed it from my data folder and things were much better in dungeons, etc.  I forget the name of the file, as I removed it a few weeks ago.  It's an ESP file, I believe.  Has DarkerInteriors or something in the name.

Well ELFX has the core file and then optional Interior and Exterior files or something you can select. I have only the core file selected and the moonpath option selected. And it still seems darker then the previous version I was using. But since the sunlight rays are fixed, I'm not going to mess with it right away. I'll just carry torches and travel lanterns in the meantime. Thankfully I'm currently playing a khajiit so nighteye is going to help as well. I used to play with Realistic Lighting Overhaul which I believe is actually darker then ELFX.

I'm using ELFX because the person who made the grim and somber preset I am using designed it with ELFX installed. So if I want the same results there isn't much of a choice for now.
