Skyrim Steam Downloads

Yesterday I downloaded the HiRes Pack from Steam.

 

This took almost 6 hours for about 3 1/2 gig. On a fast connection.

 

Has anybody else found Steam to be an unnacceptably slow host or did I just hit US rush hour?

 

PS. I did have another thread about this in which Ofinfin gave the sound advice of swapping download locations but

 

a) Steam periodically scans your IP address and decides for itself the most local server for you (you are warned that it will do this but it does not tell you when it has done it)

 

that didn't work. In my case choosing a European server in the middle of their night proved even slower.

 

c) somebody else deleted that thread for a reason that they have not explained to me. (H?)

its prly just you, my steam downloaded it in 30mins and i downloaded mine at around 5pm, but then again it could be me cause im in Canada

Aha! We were downloading at about the same time - it was you hogging the resources was it?

i also downloaded it and it only took about 30-60 mins, but i downloaded it at about 3pm in wilmington so less people around downloading it possibly.

Took me 40 minutes to get mine in California.

I downloaded it on release day about 20 mins after it was up and it took about 2hrs, I figured it to be network traffic and my slow dsl here in rural South Carolina.
