In case you havent struggled with this issue yet, know that the new Hi-Res pack will override all your mods.

In order to help those seeking for a way to have both the pack and the old mods working on the same time, I have compiled the advices given by TheOutlander on Nex forums...

TheOutlander

How to use the new Official Hi-Res texture pack with user created mods:

1. Disable or delete the esps that came with the official texture pack.

2. Backup then open

SteamAppsCommonSkyrimSkyrim_default.ini

&

DocumentsMy GamesSkyrimSkyrim.ini

3. Change this in both files:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

To this:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

4. Save both files.

Now user created mods will be able to override what they need to override in the official texture pack.

As long as the new bsas are later in the list in the ini, then they'll override the vanilla ones that come with the game. Sadly the HD pack doesn't replace all the textures in the game, so if you renamed and removed the original Textures.bsa you'd end up with a large percentage of your game without textures.

My method = User created mods > Official HD Tex Pack > Vanilla Texs

No need to cherry pick because the user created mods will override the HD Tex pack just as if it were the original Textures.bsa

If the [Archive] isn't there in the first place you shouldn't need to add it. As long as the Skyrim_default.ini one is done it should work fine. If it doesn't, copy paste the whole [Archive] section into the Skyrim.ini

Dont ask me for more technical details, because I have no knowledge on this matter. All I know is that it works and is the best solution atm, until, maybe, Beth get some sense and fix this aberration.

I have just copy/pasted this for the loverslab people that dont read the Nex forums...

a little update with a few of the conclusions of The Outlander explained...

with his method the new Tex pack will override only the old Tex.bsa. the bad thing is the esp that come with the HR pack. w/o it you cant use HR. with it, the HR pack loads over the mods. so, the best way to have both is to loose the esp and force the game to load things on the old way, by the ini files....

some suggested to rename and override the old Tex... but is wrong....

My method = User created mods > Official HD Tex Pack > Vanilla Texs

with this method the mods will be loaded first and will take precedence over the basic game files, be it old or new Tex. where there is no mod, the new HR tex will go. where is no mod or HR tex, the vanilla will go...
