Custom Races

I just recently bought both fallout 3 and NV and I'm learning how to mod them and such, but you're going to run into problems and currently I'm trying to use custom races. When I start up any hair mods I try and use don't show up for the custom race at all and from what I gather I need to use GECK to add them which I never used before so that'll be hours of work trying to figure that out and when I do use the custom race the hand textures are missing and are a weird purple color. I'm guessing I can GECK that as well, but might as well ask for a solution or advice.

In the description is a tutorial how to add hair in GECK. it should give you the basic idea.

the hands indicate missing textures. Make sure the custom race you are using has the hand textures in there. btw what custom race are you using?

Also, this mod is important to have for custom races. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6240/?

Well I thank you for the small tutorial and I'm assuming that anything that you do for fallout 3 will work for NV or do I need that making fallout 3 an add on for NV mod? I'll have to mess around with GECK today when I get the time, but the custom race I'm trying to use is just the custom player race that comes with it. I'm obviously using the one for NV and even if I drop hand textures in the folder they never show up so I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong. If you have any custom race suggestions I'm more than open to any ideas.

but the custom race I'm trying to use is just the custom player race that comes with it.

Could you be a bit more precise on this? Did you create a brand new custom race on the race menu in GECK?

When you install custom races the mod, maybe that's what's so confusing since I wasn't specific. So when you drop textures and meshes in only your pc is changed.

Really I want to use my hair mods with it and to be able to do that I need to learn GECK.

Oh thanx, I was thinking about a "generic" custom race you did on your GECK :)

yeah you still must use GECK to add hair as endgameaddiction said. But at that point, if you learn how to add hair, you will see it doesn't need a lot more to learn how to do your own custom race. Even because reading the comments it seems you're not the only one with pink hands. If you installed the mod correctly and still has this issue, I'm wondering if the mod has the right paths for textures

EDIT: downloading right now so I can take a look

I've heard it's quite hard to figure GECK out and I remember trying to mod armors for skyrim (not with GECK obviously) and I never figured out why nothing worked that I did even after spending hours and I mean hours watching/reading guides so investing my time into GECK isn't appealing to me since I went down one road with nothing to show but time wasted, but let me know what you find.

CK from looking at it is a bit more complex than the GECK. The way everything is spread out packed in the BSA makes it more of a grind. At least to me, which in a way has lost my interest in bothering to mod the game. I'm still debating if I even want to find the encouragement to. And it makes Fallout much more fun to mod. I find it much more sophisticated. I yet have to try reinstall Oblivion and tinker with Construction Set in the near/late future. Or if ever. >.>

You'll find GECK to be much easier to navigate and getting used to.

I look forward to see what you can make.

Well that depends since I was more of a fallout 3 fan and found new vegas not as good, but I'm giving it another try and testing some things and trying new things. So if it sucks me in and than I might start something up and see where it takes me. If I'm only going to play and not finish like I did the first time, well there's no point. I might do more for fallout 3 since I can play that game over and over again.

Someone eager to learn is someone worth helping. So long as your are willing to help yourself in the process.

I've just had a bad turn with Skyrim yet again. :( I'm thinking I will come back to Fallout 3. In fact I kinda did, but I've ran into a serious problem. I'm not sure what happened but after so long not really getting on Fallout 3 I am getting random CTD. I wanted to assume it was maybe corrupt saves. I've deleted all them and started over, but the problem randomly persist. On the good side, and since before I've debated this, I was very curious as to trying out Fallout 3 with Mod Organizer. Since I'm oldschool, I know all the manual procedures, so one of the things like Archive Invalidation Invalidated will be done manually. I just need to backup all my projects I created without saving them apart from the data folder itself before doing a complete reinstall. That's the part that has me lazy. X)

Good luck in your endeavors with Fallout. Never hesitate to think twice asking for help, We are here to help if you stumble into a problem.
