gray2p Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I have some questions. What's a creation kit? Dose that make it easier to make mods? If so, how would it be easier to make mods? I'm not a modder so I don't know these things and I may have more questions.
Saru Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 It's this: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/TES_Construction_Set for Skyrim. So yes, it would make it easier to make mods, because right now there's a lot of guessing and reverse engineering involved.
gray2p Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Ok well would you say that creation kits are user friendly? Like would someone like me be able to use it, who has even made a mod before.
Saru Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Well, more user friendly than TESsnip or SkyEdit, with which you'd have to work currently, certainly. The construction kit will (should) come with a thorough documentation, i.e. guides and how-tos. How difficult it will be depends entirely on what you intend to do. I'd say just give it a try and see. Â I haven't had any modding experience before Skyrim and understood how thinks work pretty quickly, if that's any comfort.
gray2p Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Yes, that dose help. I'm not looking to do anything to major. A few skins, skill additions, maybe an more level ups, some adult mods, new cloths. Nothing I'd say is really big. Would this be hard to do? Also did any of the creation kits you had come with any per-set 3d models, skins, colors and things like that, that was made for Skyrim?
Saru Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I think you're mixing up the construction kit, which is for putting stuff you made into Skyrim and the actual programs required for, uh, the rest.  Textures/Skins -> Photoshop Skill additions, more levelups: Construction Kit Adult Mods -> This depends on how you would define an adult mod. Just some text lines ingame? Construction Kit is enough. Anything else, I think you might be underestimating the effort a little bit, because you'd need... New models and animations: Autodesk 3ds Max or Blender New clothes = new models and textures: Autodesk 3ds Max or Blender + Photoshop  You'll obviously have to learn how to model, UV and texture and rig your new meshes. And then how to animate said stuff. There's tons of tutorials on the internet.  Also, no models/skins/colors (huh?) included in the construction kit. Why would they? Either you edit already existing stuff directly out of Skyrim, or you add new stuff on which the process is explained above.
gray2p Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Well I glad I asked the questions because I would have been mad. So thanks for clearing up all that stuff for me. Next questions which one would be easier to use the 3d max or the Blender. Then I've never used a photoshop before so is that easy to use? And thank you for answering all my questions.
Saru Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I think it's more a question of "can you afford it". 3ds Max will cost you 5000$. If you're a student you can get if for free though (http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=register). Blender is generally free but the interface is awful. There are tons of tutorials for both of them. Â Photoshop will cost you around 700$, might as well try GIMP which is free to use. Â As for the "which is easier" part, especially when starting to 3d model it's like you're trying to maneuver a spaceship. Blindly, with no hands. Have fun. Â Also, if you're serious about this: http://freetexthost.com/nzjanyanw0 Â This link will help you tremendously with any future efforts. Good luck!
gray2p Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Will thank you for your help I'm glad I came here and asked the questions and yes I can get the money to buy Photoshop. But I would like to know what GIMP is. And I hope I can get the 3ds max for free because I a student a Owens so well see. Yes I am willing to learn how to do this. I wanted to try when I heard about the mods for dragon age.
gray2p Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 One last question can I import models from other mods or from the game and just add new skins and animations?
