Game Music

I've been on an old 8/16 bit game kick lately and I really forgot just how much I enjoyed the music from the era. After playing a few old ROMs I've found myself trawling youtube to pull old themes for games I haven't played in 15 years. Even with all the symphonic or grand orchestral music you find in many of today's games I'm still blown away by some of the older "simple" songs that were made when games were still on cartridges.

I was quite fond of the music in Streets of Rage 2 back in the day. I played the hell out of that game so much. XD

Really enjoyed a recent fan remix version that came out last year (and shot down by sega afterwards, boo!).

Even though I'm on my 8 bit kick right now I still have to mention that Silent Hill is my all time favorite game for music. It was the first game soundtrack I bought and many of the songs from the subsequent games have been on my iPod ever since. Really its Akira Yamaoka that I'm a fan of but his work for Silent Hill is my favorite. Oddly enough, even though the game was meant to be scary and depressing, a lot of the music helps relax me and put me to sleep.
