I've switched from Wrye BAIN to Mod Organizer & now I'm getting frequent CTDs?

So I've recently switched from Wrye BAIN to Mod Organizer, added a few new mods to my install, made new merged patches & now I'm getting frequent CTDs?
I was able to play for 4 or more hours straight with my Wrye setup & was starting to think that CTDs were a thing of the past. I switched to MO for the additional features, and that happeded to coincide with getting ahold of the merge script for TES5Edit and making several merged patches. I also discovered STEP REGS guide and added a few (not all) mods from that and some others. I don't think either MO or REGS are to blame (obviously) but rather the totality of my modding must be the culprit.

For background, consider the following;

I have deleted my old saves (pre-MO) and all troubleshooting is being done with new games.

I manage the game through Mod Organizer v1.2.4 (letting MO manage

the BSAs)
I allow MO to reorder my installed mods (in th left pane) to

resolve conflicts.
I sort my plugins (right pane) with LOOT.
I make a Wrye Bash patch.
I run the Dual Sheath Redux Patcher and move the files from the

overwrite directory into an overwrite "mod" (left pane).
I run FNIS with gender specific, skeleton arm & momo jump

"checked" and move those files into an overwrite "mod" (left

pane).
I launch the game through MO using the SKSE 1.7 alpha.
I run ENB 0.345 with the Serenity 8.2 preset (enblocal.ini

reserved mem:512, max mem:10240).
I'm using Live Another Life and starting with the "camping in the

woods" choice which places me outside Helgen. I then go rescue

Ralof and proceed to Riverwood.

I've tried to trouble shoot a bit, and using Savetool-52363-1-13beta I found Skyrim Immersive Creatures to be my heaviest offender in the scripting department, so I removed it and started a fresh save. According to Convenient Horse script latency tool I see I'm running a lag of ~75 - 100ms, which is high.

If anyone has any constructive ideas on how to improve my stability I sure would appreciate them. I was freezing when trying to enter Riverwood buildings or attempting to save in Riverwood before removing SIC. Now I'm getting CTD in a new game on the way to Riverwood. I'll continue troubleshooting on my own, but I'm kinda tearing my hair out by now (and I can't afford to loose much hair btw).

If you have added mods after switching from Wrye to MO, remove them and try again. If the mods you merged have scripts, check if they're reported as successfully merged (there's a thread for that I think somewhere). Also that's a crapload of mods, many of which are script intensive.

I appreciate the response. I have checked through my merged patches using the built in error check, and rebuilt those that had "hidden" dependency issues. I've tried lainching without the various LL / SexLAb mods installed, but that didn't have any effect on script latency according to the CH tool. I did notice a drop in latency by removing Skyrim Immersive Creatures/HLE, specifically droping from 90-110 down to 75-100, but I'm still getting CTDs. I'll try navigating to Riverwood and see if I encounter issues with entering/saving as before with the higher script latency (maybe an issue with the ETaC additions on top of everything else). I'm wondering if I'm missing a needed mod, but can't come up with any likely suspects.

If you were missing a master, you'd have crashed on the main menu. Sometimes Skyrim is retarded, ie I installed some more updated versions of Apachii hair, and I get constant CTDs on load with all characters, but Apachii is a master mod for a number of stuff I have. Thing is it shouldn't be happening so yeah, sometimes Skyrim is being retarded. You could try unloading most mods, saving, then start loading them back. After updating 2 mods, I had their .esps disabled but the mods weren't disabled in the left tab and I was getting CTD on save. Disabled them from the left panel, loaded, saved successfully, then went back and re-enabled them and it was working ok, till today with the Apachii hair update.

I think I've worked through most of those issues already, this has been going on for a while, I finally decided to post. I was able to make it to Riverwood, talk to Gerdur and enter the Trader and Inn, so things are better (with the exception of that last, inexplicable CTD previous to posting). I think SIC/HLE were the scripted mods that broke my load order's back, if I want them back I'll probably have to cut some other scripted mods to make room. Latency is 50-80 indoors, so that's pretty reasonable, outside is still a bit high and it spikes to 300+ transitioning to/from exteriors/interiors.

I'll keep testing and see how it goes, I'm starting to feel like I'm making some progress.

It was a ver 0.4 Mirai follower that was causing the CTDs of all things... Reverting to 0.3 fixes the issue. I can't be bothered to do a clean save procedure for just one follower on 3 characters if it needs that. But anyway, the point was that sometimes stuff break and you can't comprehend why >_> So yeah, try disabling mods.

Seems script load is my primary enemy, so choices to make there, at least MO has my back for splitting off profiles as needed for testing, I'll probably bring SIC + HLE back once I decide to cut some others (and maybe repair with Save Script Tool).

I'm also rebuilding my merged patches to better match up to LOOTS load order (earliest, early, late, latest) to avoid less obvious issues from that.

I'm going to mark this solved as continued troubleshooting has the game playable and its just fine tuning from here. At least the conversion to MO isn't the culprit but rather an overload of mods.

Important discovery for merging plugins:

One thing to note: After you merge mods, if you check for errors, often there are none. But if you load up the merge esp again, many times if you check for errors then, there will be. If there are, it's bad. I've never had much luck merging a whole bunch of mods, always something goes amuck.

After further review, Double You nailed it. My previous merged patches often showed errors after a relaunch of TES5Edit and subsequent error check. I deleted all previous patches, and used meticulous trial and error to make sure all further merges were error free (also free of merge created mesh & texture files, mods adding new areas and some companion mods were the culprits here).

Important discovery for merging plugins:

One thing to note: After you merge mods, if you check for errors, often there are none. But if you load up the merge esp again, many times if you check for errors then, there will be. If there are, it's bad. I've never had much luck merging a whole bunch of mods, always something goes amuck.

After further review, Double You nailed it. My previous merged patches often showed errors after a relaunch of TES5Edit and subsequent error check. I deleted all previous patches, and used meticulous trial and error to make sure all further merges were error free (also free of merge created mesh & texture files, mods adding new areas and some companion mods were the culprits here).

Ah, I thought error checking mods before merging was standard practice since you know enough to merge mods xP

1. error check mods in TES5Edit = clean

2. error check merge script 1.65 created plugin = clean

3. exit TES5Edit

4. launch TES5Edit & re- error check merge script 1.65 created plugin = dirty ....

That was the point to my statement. Without exiting TES5Edit the errors created by merging & renumbering formids were not being picked up by the error check. Exiting the program and relaunching to check again allowed me to find errors that were not previously detected and had a detrimental effect on stability leading to ctd & ils errors in play.

I posted my results here in the hope that it might help someone else with the same problem.
