Blender question- no deform vertices detected?

I've been working on a mesh in Blender, and it looks like I added way too many polygons to the mesh for it to export. Whenever I try to export I get an error message telling me there's too many faces on the object, and to use the decimate tool to get rid of some of the polygons. I use the decimate tool, and everything looks okay, but when I try to export the mesh again I get a new error message saying that no deform vertices were detected in the mesh. What exactly does this mean? What do I need to do to get my mesh to export correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
