Having trouble with ENB

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble figuring out what files to place where in this ENB here. I dont know which files are to go into my steam/steamapps/common/skyrim folder ad which go into my common/skyrim/data folder. Any help please? i dont wanna screw up my files! :)

I've got only one advice : give up on ENBs. Too much work for too much fps drop and some graphics bugs. Try Non ENB instead, and with all the recommended mods and a lil bit of tweaking it should be easy to find a result that suits your tastes.

A crappy enb and a crappy sweet fx. Sigh.

Anyway, in both cases, they are just d3d9.dll injectors, goes right inside the main skyrim folder.

Some enb mods may include certain textures or other things that would go in data.

ENBs suck ! They suck with your fps and they suck with your original textures. It is not a good way to improve your game imho.

But everyone makes his/her own choice.

If you want to install an ENB you have to install everything in your Skyrim folder if I remember well, and you have to tweak your .ini files A LOT !

If it's crappy lother link me a better one that doesn't destroy my fps :)

I don't think it even exists, if you have 60+ fps when playing your game without an ENB in the most crowded/colorful places then you can try the most endorsed on NXM but don't try to install one if you have less fps than that. Well, good luck Lord of the Big Beauties !

It's true that it's a hassle for enbs to be installed, is the one you linked earlier something you would recommend?

That 'Not ENB' is just a sweet fx preset. There are many sweet fx presets that looks good (actually better than 'Not ENB' I think), and yes, they doesn't cost as much performance. Usually when you have good pc you run both ENB and Sweet FX, in fact most enb's including its own sweet fx preset. Anyway, dont just give up on enb try to get 40fps on exteriors (or something you consider acceptable in terms of quality/performance). Also, disable performance-eating options (can open ingame enb menu shift-enter) like ambient occlusion and others like depth of field if you run out of fps.

PD: And it's not my case, I don't have a good pc, I barelly hit 20fps in exteriors with enb.

you can use older enb's for better performance. i'm using one build on version .0119 and i keep 50-60 fps all the time, indoors and out. my computer isnt that good either.

tho, one way to boost the fps while using on is turn off it's DoF and use something like Dynavision instead.

Any suggestion, my dear Lother ?

NP. One of my personal favs from there is this one, maybe I have some shitty tastes but really feels like an improved lighting (a bit washed out though).

Also if I remember well, pressing the pause button on the keyboard (not esc, the actual pause) reloads the sweet fx so is really easy to go tweaking the settings txt and see and making your own preset I think (or modifying an existing one).

All I want is a good look for my Skyrim that doesn't annihilate my fps, thanks guys for those links, now time to rid myself of those enb files thankfully there are only a few I need to remove

I'm gonna test this one and some others on the link you provided to see what looks best to me. Glad to have you around, Lother. ;)

But that's mainly your computer. You really need a decent gaming videocard, enb is 100% brute force and 0% optimization. Skyrim can run good in your pc but enb is another level of requirements. Sweet fx on the other hand is simplier in what it does but it does it good and cleaner. Also, it works in any game while enb only works for skyrim, gta 4 and a few others (there's a generic enb injector but its so so). Another important thing of sweet fx is that it holds in exclusive an effect called smaa, that is like anti alliasing or fxaa, but better.

That should be enough to run enb smoothly, but you really need to learn a little about its files and how to propertly tweak it. A single wrong tweak in enblocal.ini can cost you 20fps for example. And most enb authors just drops their own enblocal's files in their downloads indiscriminately. The STEP guide has a nice section about enb, you should take a look at it.

Usually no ENB files at all should go into the Data folder, they all belong into the Skyrim folder.

...and usually it's not that big kind of a problem to install it right.

1) Go to the Realvision ENB site and look up the installation instructions there. You won't find a better site that explains how to install an ENB + preset

(but keep in mind that it uses CoT and depends on CoT; if you don't have CoT installed it's not for you)

2) Choose the ENB preset that fits to the weather/lighting mod you use:

-Weather and lighting mods = CoT, Vanilla Weather, ENB Weather, RCRN (RCRN might be run alongside of an ENB, but to be honest, it needs

some work and I rate RCRN as a pretty outdated mod)

-pure Lighting mods = ELFX, RLO, Relighting Skyrim are the most used and up to date lighting mods

My favorites would be:

-If you want to use a weather mod at all -> Climates of Tamriel, hands down, it's the best weather mod out there and it gets support

-as lighting mod: ELFX or a combination of ELFX and ELE, Imho ELFX is much more immersive as RLO, because of less ambient light, but adding a

nice yellow/orange color tone for light sources.

My favorite ENB preset at moment: Serenity ENB

It has three versions and the performance version should run on average systems too.

It has two subpresets a black/white one and a sepia preset.

I love this ENB because of it's bloom technics and it's fine shadows (shadow resolution around 2k in your SkyrimPrefs.ini is more than enough) and AO and its desaturated look which causes no issue with oversaturated SFO plants. Skin textures look very well and realistic with that ENB.

I love this ENB because it uses vanilla weather and I got rid of a ton of CoT and CoT patch .esp files what saved me a lot of performance and mod slots. CoT is great, it adds nice lighting and a very complex weather system, but I decided that less complexity and a more stable game is much more important for me.

I've decided to use non enb, cause dje34 made a good point in that enb us a hassle to install and destroys for so I'll be using the non enbs, for now :)

It is just drag and drop. The only thing you need to care about is enblocal.ini which is the 64bit memory patch for skyrim (skyrim is only 32bit so crash a lot without enb boost, you need it anways even if you dont use effect mods...) Just have your enblocal.ini save and then jsut drag and drop the files in the skyrim root folder.

My favorite ENB preset at moment: Serenity ENB

It actually looks impresive, i'll give it a try later.

The full version is far from being performance friendly (but still not such a system shock as Kountervibe ENB was, which is sadly not available anymore on Nexus).

I am always somewhat careful to declare an ENB as performance friendly, because although I play on 2560 x 1440 resolution (which stresses your cards heavily although you might not need much antialiasing) I have a Geforce TITAN SLI system and even Kountervibe on almost max settings was playable for me. My rig is alien technology from another star :-)

does it have a sweetfx folder too? i can run any enb pretty well, but anything with sweetfx crashes me, idk why. even jsut using it alone crashed me.
