In need of inspiration for magical crafting mods

Good day,

I am something of a novice modder, and I've recently wandered onto this function on one of my searches through the CK wiki.

As someone who is disappointed by vanilla Skyrim's crafting systems, which consist of little but the clicking of buttons in a UI and unlocking relevant perks after rigorous level-grinding, I'm thinking I could use this function and those related to it to make some sort of proof-of-concept magical crafting plugin that checks for all references in an area and does something interesting to them if you've put down the right things in the right amounts.

Unfortunately, I can't think of a terribly lore-friendly way of implementing something like this, as I don't think anything like it has been featured in previous ES games. Skyrim does have the Atronach Forge, but I'd call it a special case, and I don't want anything I make to be too similar to it in appearance and function.

So, my question to you all is, do you have any suggestions or vague ideas on how I could implement a UI-free crafting mod using the aforementioned function in a way that, if not lore-friendly, at least does not rend the lore in two?

As someone who first sought LL for its more naughty materials, I'd be willing to accept both adult and non-adult suggestions.
