Killerwolf1010 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Happened on my last playthrough before I had any magic stuff added, at some point in the game, I just become unable to use any kind of crafting tools (But I can use the smelter and forge for some reason). My character bends down to use the bench and then immediately stands back up. I tested it on all the benches in the testing hall with similar results. I've been through google for hours looking at different reasons and solutions people have had with this and none of them worked for me, from kicking people off a bench, to getting arrested, to checking tai command, having sex, to loading a previous save that worked and using a bench, checking mods, running FNIS again, etc, etc. Edit: I just noticed I can't sit for long either, so it's probably something to do with all animations. To be clear, my older saves do work, even though I haven't added any new mods since. Going back to them and using a bench and saving (Or not saving) then loading up my future save doesn't fix the problem. What's weird is that I think I was able to use the crafting benches later than what my saves allow. I constantly use new saves, so I can go back about every 10-20 minutes since I've been playing, and only like the level 1-3 saves can still use benches even though I think I used them later than that in my original playthroughs. I was very careful at first with my mods to have them in the correct load order, but after I started using Boss a couple days ago, I can't remember if everything is in the proper order. When I first used Boss also happens to be when I first got the glitch, so it could have misplaced something. The first time it happened it was with my vampire character and I was taking sun damage when I tried to activate a tanning rack, I thought maybe that was the problem so I tried removing vampirism and my vampire mod as well as all the solutions I could find and nothing fixed it, I finally just remade the character. Now it's just happened with my mage character with no possible apparent reason, so I'm not sure what to do. I tried removing some things that I had added recently on my first playthrough, as well as removing things that I felt could conflict with animations or affect crafting (BBP that adds female walk animation, Bandalier, RealisticNeeds, NudeCreatures, Run For Your Lives (Happened before it was installed on my vamp), Both magic mods (Happened before it was installed), UFO, Alternate Start, Schlongs. Sexlab and all its bits are a bit obnoxious to remove so I haven't tried that yet. I think it would break my saves to remove it all, then I couldn't even test it to know if that was the problem. I did try halting all animations and disabling it from the ingame menu, as well as cleaning it. If anybody can come up with a cause, it'd be greatly appreciated. TLDR: Attempting to use any crafting bench or animations like sitting but the smelter and forge results in my character immediately standing back up so I can't really use them. Tried fixes I could find for it on google and none of them worked. It's happened on two separate playthroughs now, I tried to remove mods I thought would conflict with no fix. It happened after I first starting using Boss, so maybe my mod order is off? Though old saves or new games without any mod changes work still. Paradox_of_Theseus Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I've had this happen to me before, and honestly it just happened to me for the second time today. Unfortunately I can't tell you what causes this or how to fix it. However, I can tell you that the last time I had this issue crop up in my game that it worked itself out within a day or two. I'm not sure how or why (I didn't change any mods or anything). Hopefully someone else knows of a neat trick or console command to remedy this, otherwise I would only suggest not giving up immediately and see if it fixes itself with time.
gvman3670 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I had this happen once, too, and the only fix was an older save about 5 hours of gameplay prior.
Guest Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 somewhere i read that it is becouse some animation wasnt endet corect. for example sitting on a chair. if it isnt endet by the game correct the game will not allow another animation to be used. for me it was some scene from the companions questline. reloading a save befor it happens was the only solution.

I'd love if it just magically fixed itself, here's hoping. I'm surprised that if it's some problems with an animation getting stuck, that I couldn't find a console command to fix it. I had this happen once, too, and the only fix was an older save about 5 hours of gameplay prior. Yeah it'd be like an entire day or two of playing for me as only my level 2 saves or lower work on my mage...I'd almost rather just restart my character at that point. somewhere i read that it is becouse some animation wasnt endet corect. for example sitting on a chair. if it isnt endet by the game correct the game will not allow another animation to be used. for me it was some scene from the companions questline. reloading a save befor it happens was the only solution. Too bad I go days (RL) sometimes without using crafting benches so I don't notice it sooner x.x Both times I would have lost days of playtime if reverting to a save that works even though I save constantly. Now I'm trying to get in the habit of checking crafting tables and sitting constantly for it. Edit: Oh actually my mage wasn't as bad as my vampire thankfully, I only lost 2-3 hours on them. I liked that playthrough more so I'm glad she's salvageable.
Paradox_of_Theseus Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I'd love if it just magically fixed itself, here's hoping. I'm surprised that if it's some problems with an animation getting stuck, that I couldn't find a console command to fix it. I'm sure there is, especially if its some sort of animation issue. Its probably something you have to toggle on/off...I just don't know what exactly. And I'm right there with you regarding losing the saved game time. If it is related to some animations, I'm pretty sure I know where it most likely was...I had an especially buggy time with the Daedric Quest right outside of Dawnstar and had to do a lot of reloads and waiting to get the follower where he was supposed to be (even then he was invisible half the time).
Killerwolf1010 Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 I noticed this issue too, but nobody answered when I posted it. In my case, it's the vampire feeding animation on a sleeping target. If you use it too often, it can get stuck and the only solution is reloading a save prior to the problem. The bottom line? You have to allow time for any animation to end properly, people. If you clicked accidentally another activator while the previous action was still going through, bad things can happen, even if it's not evident at first. I thought it could be that too. The in combat stealth feeding from the improved vampire mod often glitches and tries to leave a hostile enemy alive after the bite like if you were feeding off a passive target (Of course they then spaz out and alert everybody around you), it's quite annoying and leads to many reloads until it functions properly. My mage isn't a vampire though and I didn't have any animation problems with her previously. Hopefully we can find a better solution than just reloading old files eventually. Edit: Alright with some testing, I think I found out exactly what caused it last time and this time (Had it happen again). Sexlab Defeat, if an NPC dies before they can sex up an enemy, it happens. I just tested it three times during the find the 3 books Winterhold mage college quest and the only time it didn't happen was when I didn't release the vampires to fight the mages since the mages always manage to get one of the vampires down to low health for sexy time. I remember on my initial playthrough the same thing happened and my saves broke just after that as well in my initial run now that I test them in here. How even resetting Sexlab didn't fix it means that I'll probably have to remove it. At least I can go check their threads for info on that. Oh good news, using the clean function on Sexlab Defeat worked this time. Though none of the settings in there from changing things to "No Transition" or attempting to stop the rape if an NPC is attacked during it won't prevent it, at least it can be resolved. Hooray I fixed it. I'm almost positive I tried this earlier (Went through all the settings in all my mods looking for a resolution and resetting what I could, but maybe I somehow missed Defeat's clean function.
nunyabidnez Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Has anyone else come up with any other solutions or causes for this? My character just started doing this within the past day or so, didn't really notice exactly when. Mine is semi-inconsistent, as in I can sit at some seats, not at others, I can use some workbenches but not others, I can use some cooking spits or pots but not others. With mine, as soon as she drops out of the animation for crafting or sitting, she draws her weapons as if readying for combat. I do not have vampirism, nor do I have defeat loaded up. I do have submit, devious devices w/submit support, aroused and romance loaded, also interesting NPCs. TAI works occasionally, but not for any duration. Thanks in advance for any advice or information.
gvman3670 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Hate to do it, but bump? Hate to tell you, but the only fix I found was an older save that didn't have that problem. I have no idea how to fix it other than that. Maybe, just maybe, using every single animation you've got and making sure to let it play through without getting interrupted could fix it, but that's a big maybe and would nearly impossible to pull off. It seems it's caused by having some animation or other get interrupted before it plays through. It then breaks other animations. So go back to an older save and don't break any animations.
nunyabidnez Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Thanks, gvman3670, I appreciate the response. Guess I'll give that a try, I actually discovered an additional strange glitch related to this problem, if I approach the item I'm trying to use from a angle instead of head on, I can get the animations to work about 80% of the time. Weirdest damn error I've ever had.
Clangeddon Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hi all, So here's what worked for me - granted, it is TEMPORARY, but will at least let you craft/improve items. I believe the issue is with Zaz Animations (and perhaps the interactions with Prison Overhaul). To allow yourself to craft, enter your MCM, go to Zaz and hit clean/restart. Exit the menu, and start crafting. Note that this (for me anyway) wore off after 30s or so (or when crafting ends). *update* After updating Zaz, this workaround doesn't work :-(
cyphershield925 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Okay, I've had this problem several times and it doesn't seem to be consistently caused by any one thing. The first time I successfully fixed it, cleaning Defeat via the MCM menu did the trick. Just now, force restarting Prison Overhaul via MCM fixed it. Therefore my advice is to save the game and try force restarting/cleaning anything that has an MCM option to do so until you identify the problem. Then you can load and just hit the right one to preserve any settings and whatnot that would be lost by resetting everything.
