Strapon "bug" more of a persistent issue than I imagined.

I first posted this issue in a thread that got a couple of replies (but no suggested solutions).  After a while, I gave up on that and started a new game.  My experiences suggest that the issue I had in the previous game went beyond a mere buggy save.

 

I'd been allowing female characters in that previous game to use strapons for male animations.  Sometime after I upgraded my companion's (Serana's) armor, I noticed that she never took off the strapon.  Even if I took away the upgraded armor and she returned to her default, she'd have the strapon poking through her vampire armor.  If I dismissed her, then went back to get her, she'd be "fixed" inside Fort Dawnguard; but, as soon as we exited into the outdoors, the strapon would be poking through her armor, again.  When I couldn't figure out any way to fix that, and no one else could tell me how to fix it, I eventually found it so annoying that I quit that game in disgust/frustration and started, again.

 

In the next game, I disabled the use of strapons from the beginning, hoping to avoid the issue in that manner.   But, when I finally decided to upgrade some armor and give it to Serana, she donned a strapon as part of the ensemble-- despite the fact that she had never used one for sex. Apparently, she likes wearing them, now, simply to make my game look shitty.

 

I just have no idea what is going on with this.  Is this how the mod is supposed to work, or isn't it?  If not, why would it work the same way in a new game?  If it's not supposed to work this way, is there any way I can fix it? 

 

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Do you use any follower mods, like Ultimat Follower Overhaul? UFO allows  to say "You could dress better" for any follower, so their armor and weapons changes from their default gear to replaceble gear.

 

In short, you can take your follower's gear and replace it with new, without previous gear returning again. They act like PC in that manner.

 

If - I can't be certain, because I haven never encountered this bug - Serana gets an strapon from SexLab files and it becomes a part of her default gear, then you should be able to take it away with UFO.

I used to use the NPC Clothes Changer and Maintainer by Dudestria.  I love that mod, and it might have come in handy for testing here, if I could have used it.

 

But, because that mod uses code sliced from Dudestria's Multiple Marriages mod, which is incompatible with Sexlab, I didn't want to take a chance on there being an undocumented conflict between Sexlab and the NPC Clothes Changer and Maintainer, specifically.

 

Even if Serana is, as you suggest (and I surmised, as well), getting this strapon as part of her default gear, why would my taking it away from her prevent her from simply sprouting a new one, and the whole exercise continuing on, again, from there?

 

I'll look for the file you recommended and see what I can do with it.

It appears to be a pretty powerful, complex mod-- using it as an experimental strapon remover brings to my mind something like trying to use an F/A 18 to deliver a paper route.  I'm a bit intimidated by the number bugs that such a powerful mod can introduce, particularly since I'm indifferent to most of the mod's features, and really just want to sort out my original bug.  Some things about the mod sound intriguing; but, with Sexlab already causing me to start new games far too often, I try to keep things as simple as I can wherever possible.

My first question is this, did you give her a crafted strapon, one you made at a forge or bought in a shop? As in does she actually have strapon as a item in her inventory?

No-- I don't have any mod that allows one to buy/craft strapons.  It's just the strapon that comes in by default if you enable strapons for females using male animations.

Hmm ok have you tried using the sexlab clean/restart function? I would try that and see if that fixes the issue. It sounds like she is trapped in the presex equip strapon phase. Which is odd but that is my guess at this point, so doing a clean/restart of sexlab very well might fix the issue.

With strapons disabled, would strapons still be equipped in the "presex equip strapon phase?"  I'd presumed that they'd only be equipped if they were part of an activated sequence option.

 

For some reason this worked:  I'd hypothesized (correctly or incorrectly-- Idk-- but, the problem is fixed, now, so I'm not going to mess with success) that the strapon had become attached to Serana's vampire armor.  Even if she was wearing something else, the hood of the vampire armor would pop over her head during daylight hours.

 

After I married her, and she was wearing armor I gave her as well as an armored hood I made for her, I was able to buy her vampire armor from her store, leaving her with no base armor-- if I trade back what I gave her, she's nude.  Anyway, now, she no longer sprouts the strapon.  I'm afraid to give the vampire armor back to her; I'm still playing without strapons in the game, although I may get brave and try turning that option on in this game at some point.

A bit strange but I could see how it might end up graffed to the base armor they always have by default. When strapons on enable the NPC or PC should only equip a strapon during sex and then unequip it the rest of time.

 

You could do a save with how it is now, then turn strapons back on. Engage in sex with Serena so she uses one and then see if the problem comes back. As long as you don't make a new save it shouldn't cause a problem. If the problem happens again, just quit with out saving. It the problem doesn't come back then you know it is a issue with her default armor.
